I constantly got a pop up window from safari that looks like this ...

its always a different address but its always this pop up....

Once I get this pop up I try to open facebook and I get invalid URL error page, the only fox is to close out safari and reboot. I feel like Im using a PC again

    I tried Firefox ...same issue

Very Annoying... can anyone help ???

    Thanks

Make sure you close the offending tab before quitting Safari. I would also do a reset on Safari to clear out history and caches.

I open safari, then I open facebook or a different page and I get the pop up I posted above. I have reset safari, cleared everything ... nothing works.. I also close the offending tab when I close safari.

    Anyone else have any suggestions

Have you picked the "Show Certificate" option? You should be able to look at it and see if the name on the cert matches what you are getting in the error message. There should also be an expiration date on the cert.

If they don't match, I'd check where you are getting DNS from because something may be trying to send you to an invalid site.

If everything looks ok on the cert then I'm guessing that you may have trouble with your keychain. Maybe go into the keychain app (in Utilities folder) and look for errors?

The certs are always from websites ive never heard of, i guess there are pretending to be Facebook. I dont know how to stop this.

Its only when I have a facebook tab open...

Keychain ? Not sure what that is exactly, I would not know what to look for.

I would check where your DNS is pointing to then. If you're trying to get to Facebook the cert shouldn't have a site you haven't heard of and Safari is doing the right thing.

The Keychain app is in your Utilities folder. It is where your certs are stored.

Have you checked the date and time on your computer? Certificates have a start date and an expiry date.

System Preferences -> Network -> select Wifi or Ethernet as appropriate -> Advanced -> DNS.

If the IP for DNS is pointing to your router (probably starts with 192... Or 10...), then you new to log onto your router's config and see where it's DNS is pointing (unfortunately all router interfaces are a bit different so I can't help you there).

The other thing to try is to just change your DNS to point to Google's DNS servers or OpenDNS's servers. I don't remember their IP's but you should be able to search for it easily enough.

Have you clicked on the "Show Certificate" button. It should show the reason the message appears, either in red or with a warning icon beside.

Karen, this was helpful thanks for the leg work, I did not find anything when I googled it.

I will try trusting the cert and see what happens

Can someone recommend a good MAC antivirus , Im using a free version of Sophos Anti Virus

You shouldn't have to trust the cert because they've fixed the underlying problem.

when did they fix the issue ?

In the article you posted prior it says to trust the cert, maybe this was before it was addressed.

It has not happened much lately but it was real bad for about a year.

Another issue I was getting was my Facebook page would get highjacked to a different home page, it would be a reputable home page but for an hour or so. If I went to FB it would just redirect me to their site.

Seems like FB is vulnerable to hackers etc...

The article I linked to said the issue (Akamai using https for an image link rather than http) had been fixed.
