Just wanted to say how impressed I was today with the find my iphone app. I am a cop and recovered an Iphone 4 today due to this app. The GPS shot showed the phone in the house. Long story short the Iphone was recovered and I installed the app on all 3 of the family Iphones. I had read about it and meant to install it but just put it off.
If you don't have it I highly recommend it.

i have been meaning to do this and just like you have been putting it off..

just curious, from a legal point of view, once installed what does someone need to do after the location of the device is confirmed? meaning, not so sure it's so safe just walking up to a random house, knocking on the door and start accusing of them having "my phone"

If it was me I would call the police. I mean if you explained to them what happened and that you know the location of it, I'm sure they would be willing to help much more than if you just said my iPhone was stolen and I don't know where it's at

What I would do have a police officer with me when I log into the website - locate the phone... then the officer can have another officer go to where the phone is, then you can use the feature to have the phone make noise so it can be found easily by the second officer.

I came in at the end of the case. The victim did go to the house on her own, and tell them that her phone was showing that it was there. However the suspect denied it. That is when they got the police involved. I was the second Deputy to get involved. The suspect returned it to me. The victim showed me the GPS photo that the phone was at the suspects house (she took snap shots of it). I knew the suspect (I am assigned to a high school and he was a student). The gps shot even showed his car in the driveway. The victim could see every where they went with the phone and also see where they stopped for launch. Anyways without this app they would of NEVER got the phone back. I have had it on all day and have not noticed a huge drain on the battery.

Cool story. Gotta love a happy ending.

I have the app installed on all of my family's iPhones, as well as my iPad.

Well done, buggyman, I'm thinking of hiding an iPhone on my bicycle so I can track if my bicycle gets stolen

I have noticed minimum battery drain using the app for the last week. Instead of being at 60% at the end of the day I am at 50%.

Just a question, are you all talking about just activating the find my iphone feature through a mobile me account, or are you installing and running the app all the time?
