Whatsapp emoticons

I use whatsapp to talk to my bff, who is on a blackberry. the newest version of whatsapp for bb has emoticons. I can receive them, but will she see the emoticons I send her from my emoji?

Typically only another iPhone can see those. Try it and see.

This was a good question which I sent to my own BlackBerry Storm2. Emoji keyboards and app based emoticons doesn't appear. ASCII/text based emoticons are fine.

So here's an interesting thing. She sees them. BUT my wife's iphone doesn't seem to have an emoji keyboard to enable. Is it whatsapp that has the emoji and therefore she sees them because it's native to whatsapp? I had installed and uninstalled an emoji app when I first got my phone, but that shouldn't be affecting things now. I'm really confused.

AFAIK, there's no emoji built into WhatsApp.

It does work. She sees all the emoji. She got emoji when they updated the BB version of Whatsapp. And when I updated my OS, I had emoji as a keyboard, my wife did not. ???
