I've been investigating the various "messaging" apps so my wife (whose iPhone is a company phone and texting is frowned upon) and I can quickly exchange messages. Found this in AppAdvice this morning. From the atebits folks, partnered with someone else I've not heard of before.

Not sure how it all works yet, but I think they allow various email addresses, phone numbers, etc., to be attached to an "account" so when other Textie users send a "textie" message, they send it to the recipient's textie account, or if they don't have one, the SMS/MMS/email of the recipient. Any thoughts?

Wife doesn't like it. I had connection issues with it as well last week.

I never had any issues with Whats App. Textie looks like it has ads (free app) and requires registering on their web site. App Advice also mentions that messages lag.

Gizmodo gave Textie a good review for what it is worth to you... I'm going to try the free app for a bit and see how it works, but chances are it'll get better if/when more people adopt it
