I spent last week on a cruise ship (nice vacation!) and of course my wife and I had our iPhones with us. Due to the extreme expense of using "Cellular At Sea" service, our phones were off the whole time.

The ship had an onboard LAN that was accessible after purchasing a package of minutes. It appeared that I could log on to it and incur no charges (no reduction in available minutes) as long as I was not accessing the internet.

This got me to thinking about using that LAN to talk from one iPhone to another on the same LAN. It would be extremely handy for calls within the ship. I've searched and searched but so far I've not found any such app.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Keith

for a lan chat to work requires one of two things.

    1. for a system to search out other apps of the same kind on the network and run an ad hoc network. this means one phone needs to manage all the others. if it drops off the other phones need to know how to search for the new managing phone and reconnect

    2. a centralized server on the same network

you need to search for an app with these two requirements
