I'm one of those people that always complain about prices (not just  iPhones...LOL), but end up purchasing it anyway no matter the price...LOL

Ha. Me too! Prices are way too steep, in general. But I can't help but upgrade .... we are the reason they can keep the price points that high.

The current price is fine by me but I will definitely get a case to protect $999. Does anyone have a good leather case recommendation?

I have had every number iPhone since the 3, 3S, 4, 4s, 5x, 6, 7, and now ordered the 8+. However the Samsung OLED is much brighter and nicer than the iPhone X. I am saying that as someone that is sticking with the iPhone, and most likely will in the foreseeable future. I won't jump ship, but the iPhone X needs 1 more year before I am ready to change.

Apple Leather Cases are very nice & they look even better when they patina.
