Can anyone tell me why this will not stop spinning? It usually only spins when I first open an app or a web page. I’ve never had this happen before. It’s beside the WiFi signal icon. It’s been spinning all day despite restarting the phone.

I’m not quite sure. Are you downloading something? Or perhaps uploading photos to the Cloud?
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will reply soon

Try Reset Network Settings.
Reset Network Settings Settings>General>Reset>Tap Reset Network Settings. You may need to enter your wifi passcode back in afterwards.

I got the phone release day. Funny thing it just started doing this after I downloaded 11.01

Same thing happened to me. It’s stopped doing it after a few days. I thing my phone was synching everything so it was constantly do that.

One thing I did do was turn off background app refresh. That also helped.

Just for reference for anyone that comes across this in a future search: Resetting network settings will eliminate all your saved WiFi passwords in iCloud Keychain. I learned this the hard way a few weeks ago.

I had this issue the entire time I tested iOS 11. I had it on my 6s, and now on my new 8 Plus. It eats the crap out of my battery. Resetting network settings generally stops it... until it starts again soon after. I've never been able to figure out why it's doing that.

Usually, in the case of a new OS or phone, it's apps or systems running overtime in the background to adjust. Sometimes the phone may get a little hot and the battery discharges fast. This may last a few days, but should level out and be fine.
