Op, if you think it's abnormal and others agree, just take it to Apple. They'll replace it without question.
Actually they won't, if he had a case on = normal wear and tear. He just needs to clean it with alcohol and keep it in his case...hate to say that. Op did you clean it with alcohol?

You can try taking it to apple but I'm not sure they'll replace it. If you have  care maybe try to use part of your warranty and come out like 80-100 bucks

Four weeks ago I went with a friend who was having "issues" with his iPhone 7. The phone has a broken camera lens (literally a hole on the camera) scuffs anywhere but the screen and still got the phone replaced under warranty. It was only his second attempt. They will absolutely replace it. Just matters who the person at the Genius Bar is.

OP, all I'm saying is take it to them with another "issue". Good luck.

Yes that is taking it to them with another issue as your recommending which unless there actually is another issue, it's unethical. But typically for damage you cause yourself, they will not replace unless you have AC+.

Apple is not going to replace that. It looks like normal wear for the Jet Black. Those micro abrasions are what the phone looks like after extended periods of time.

Should still have Apple Warranty though, but on the other hand Apple has been warning before release that they scuff easily. Bummer on the jet black abrasions. Kind of why I went with the matte black.

If someone takes it to them with another issue and the guy at the bar clearly sees the camera hole because of the broken lens and other scuffs, he can easily say they won't replace it under warranty for the reason you're bringing it. Which happened once but not the second time. I'm pretty much saying that they're very good about replacing devices no matter what.

Just don't take it to them and say, "Yeah, I have some wear and tear on the back of my device and would like it replaced." So if the wear and tear on the phone shows under a light and bothers the OP that much, I say what's the harm in trying to get it replaced?

Oh and OP, don't clean it with alcohol. All you're gonna do is remove oleophobic coating.

This is not true. I have cleaned the phone many, many times with alcohol and nothing happened to the oleophobic coating. Also, he's cleaning the back of the phone. Not front.

No, I don't have jet back. I've had marks from cases on other phones. My silver iPhone 7 Plus got marks from the Spigen TPU case as well, but I am able to take them off with a damp cloth. I don't know how the jet black finish would behave. You may want to be careful either was as it will likely scratch if the material is at all abrasive. Maybe cotton balls with alcohol?

I too have JB7+ and have been extremely careful using slickwraps clear skins and now white one. My OCD has been killing me where I wish I would have kept my matte black to begin with. It just sucks that apple really pushed the JB in their keynotes back in September as top of the line color that no other OEM is doing. But as much as it scratches, it feels like your buying into a half baked idea from apple. I miss Steve Jobs ☹️

So you say it's not true then you go on to admit that you don't clean a phone with a jet black finish and that you don't know how it would behave on jet black? Lol

Jet Black has coating on the back.

#1 Alcohol does not remove oleophobic coating.
#2 Jet Black finish is not coated with oleophobic coating on the back of the phone.

I am not sure where there is confusion...

Have you held a jet black iPhone without a case? The back is coated.

Yes I have, and the back might be coated but it is not coated with oleophobic coating. I'm not sure I understand your point.

The confusion is, you are incorrect. A simple search would have given you the answer.
#1 . Alcohol does indeed remove the oleophobic coating. It is also strongly suggested not to use common household detergents on oleophobic coated screens.
#2 . It is also strongly suggested not to use alcohol on the Jet Black coating as it will cause deterioration of the clear coating. Basically the same concept as #1 .

Please do not let a discussion turn in to an argument with false information. Thanks.
