I'm upgrading from a 64gb iPhone 6s to the 7plus. Trying to decide between 128gb vs 256gb. I was thinking 128 is enough. Verizon is trying to sell the 256gb. Not sure if I need it or b/c other phone is back ordered until 11/30. Any advice?

I got the 256GB but also think the 128 would have been fine.

I think the 128 GB will be fine for the majority of users. I personally have the 256 GB and I LOVE not having to worry about storage. If you can afford the 256, I'd say go for it. Chances are you'll probably get your iPhone 7 Plus sooner as well.

If you can afford the 256gb, you should definitely go for it. Personally, I love to know that I have no to think about no free storage space specially if you are/will be locally storing HD videos and other heavy files.
That said, 128gb is also a lot of storage space and can be easily manage. It all about the extra money imo and if I have the extra money I will definitely get the 256gb.

How are you for free space now compared to what you expect to need?

My 128GB 7+ has over 70GB free with almost 6000 songs and over 4000 photos synced from my desktop.

Right now I have used about 57GB of the 64GB. I probably will get the new iphone next year and give this to my daughter, but I don't know!

I have a 128GB phone and have about everything on it, I will be putting on the phone and still have 90GB free. If I had a 256, that would be an additional 128GB of wasted space that I paid for.

I would recommend the 256gb if you plan on keeping it for at least a 2 years. I personally went from the 6s 128gb to the 7 256gb. The main reason was I have not figured out the best way to store the photos and videos from my iPhone to a hard drive (my MacBook has less free storage then my iPhone has total so I am unable to store them to it), and I have over 112gb of photos and videos so my 128gb was full. I also have like 30-40gb of movies downloaded. I have several of my favorite movies on my iPhone and watch them sometimes here and there. Plus I don't like relying on my data connection for iCloud. Ultimately it is you who has to live with the decision, good luck.

External hard drive. They are measured in terabytes now.

I know but don't know how exactly to do that. As far as I know apple is not exactly drag and drop like when I had a PC and android.

For the Camera Roll, it is.

Also, if you leave the external drive connected, you can set iTunes to use it via the settings, and have it move your library to it. That's a question for another forum here at iMore.

    Totally.

On to the topic, I went 128gb last year and 256gb this year so I vote 256gb.

Everyone should get 128gb as standard since you will be using your phone for 1 year at least before upgrading to the next iPhone.

I got the 256gb because I don't want to worry about the space and I will surely use close to 128gb anyway like last year.

    Welcome to iMore!

I recommend the 128GB as a minimum, but if you can afford the 256GB then get it. I had a 6 64GB and did not have to worry as I could easily manage it, but would have been nice not to have to worry. I got the 256GB this time around as I wanted to put some movies on my phone for when I travel. Movies, music and pictures will take up the most space, so take that into consideration when deciding on what size to get.

Get the most you can afford. I have the 256 variant but I'll be loading tons of Tidal HiFi files for offline storage and other stuff one stores on a phone.

Usually I would say "128GB is more than enough" but apps these days sure "balloon" in size. The longer you're using some apps, the more data it stores for caching on your iPhone. So it's apps plus all your photos (including Live Photos), videos (now in 4K!), music etc. This all adds up over time. So if you can afford the 256GB and you intend to keep your phone for 2+ years, you really should get it. It's less hassle trying to manage space in the long run.

In my opinion the 128GB is perfect. The 256GB seems a bit over kill. Not really worth the extra cash

I'd recommend 128GB minimum. 32GB just doesn't cut it these days. Especially with the size of apps and photos now increasing.

I usually get 32 or 64 depending on device. However this time I had to get the 128 or 256 due to lack of choice. I have about 1000 audio files and 2400 photos and a couple dozen episodes of TBBT and still have 90GB Free on a 128. A 256 would have been so much overkill.

128gb should be fine unless you're shooting a ton of 4k video or download a lot of movies from iTunes to your phone. I went with 128gb myself after being fine with 64gb for the past two years

I have a128gb device and I'm more than happy. If you prefer to keep stuff stored on your device and you watch movies on your phone and store videos then 256gb will meet your needs for sure. If you are getting the jet black you only have those 2 storage capacities.

I got 32, simply because I dont play any games or listen to any music, my apps used 5GB and the rest is for photos, what is fine

But what worries me is this

What storage size is recommended for Iphone 7 plus?-6hwiwdl.jpg

when will I see this speed difference on my phone compared to 128/256 model?
