Welcome to iMore. If she's a responsible young lady, I would suggest the middle tier of memory (gigabytes). 512gb is a lot and 64gb has one always checking how much memory is left. Nowadays 256gb seems just about right for most. Just my opinion of course.

I think that this is a good suggestion. I am far from being a teen and do not play a lot of games, so 64gb works for me. Games take up a lot of space, so I think that 256gb is a good compromise!

256 GB is PLENTY of space. I have a 256 and I still haven't came close to it. A good argument could be made for 64GB for a teen. My son has a 32GB and he does just fine. He has his games but he streams a lot of his music/video content. If you have an unlimited data plan, you could probably get by with a 64 GB and be just fine. But 256 would definitely work. 512 GB is overkill.

I agree with all the above suggestions. I to have the 256GB and being a data hoarder it is plenty

I say the lowest possible. Let her experience something similar to what it was like to manage a meager 16GB.

I would get her the iPhone with the lowest storage space (64 GB nowadays, I think) She’s 12 and should be grateful to you for getting her the iPhone. Getting the one with the lowest storage space will teach her to keep the apps and games that are most important to her on the device. Still, 64 GBs is quite a bit of space so she’ll be able to store quite a bit of space, especially if she’s not filming videos and keeping them on the device.

I just noticed that the OP posted in the iPhone 6s forum so the choices are 16-64 and 128GBs

I missed that. Thanks for the clarification Kataran. In that case I suggest the 128. Based on keeping a iPhone for two/three years.
