Hi, this is will be my first iphone. I am looking at the 6's on sale and the more expensive 7 I don't need anything fancy. I want it to be able to get ios updates for a few years. I am thinking the 7 will out last the 6's for ios updates, that would be the ony reason I would get a 7 Do not care about the better camera for chip.

    Thanks.

Both the iPhone 6s and 7 will get updates for a couple of years. Both devices run really well on iOS 12 and hopefully will continue going forward. If it’s between the 6s or 7 I’d go with the 7, just because it’s a year newer and will probably receive at least one more update down the road.

Thanks Prince that's what I was thinking, better to pay a bit more now than be sorry later.

Even the 5s is still supported and got iOS 12. I don't think you need to be concerned as the 6s runs very well and is still worth buying.

I am going to have to compare prices and see how much of a difference there is. Found this interesting. It is dated 8-18

    List of Compatible iPhones

Since Apple has already stopped supporting 32-bit applications from iOS 11 onwards, it is very certain that any Apple device which does not support 64-bit apps (iPhone 5c and lower) will not be compatible with iOS 13. Here is the complete list

    iPhone X
    iPhone 8 Plus
    iPhone 8
    iPhone 7 Plus
    iPhone 7
    iPhone 6s
    iPhone 6s Plus
    iPhone 5S

NOTE: Although we have included iPhone 5s in the list, it is still not clear whether it will be compatible with the upcoming iteration of Apple OS. So if you are still using the iPhone 5s, consider upgrading to a higher model at the earliest.

If I were you, I would go with a 7 or higher.

Good advice based on our just finishing hand me down 7s to the kids and comparing 6 and 6S performance. Optical image stabilization is another reason to consider a later model.

At the moment Apple is making the XR and XS attractive. Especially if you have more than one older device to stack trades at Apple Store or others doing the same. Those would for sure be doing some "future proof". By a lot of measures they're what people wanted in a phone for long time.
