    I have plugged it in the same way I do for my ipad. Two red lines appear on the battery image and do not increase no matter how long the phone has been plugged in.

    First try a different cable. Then try plugging it into a computer and try a wall plug as well. Have you tried to reboot the phone? Have you checked to see that you do not have any dirt of fluff in the lightning cable port and are not getting a proper connection? If none of these work, then I would make a Genuis appointment with Apple Store.
