While on a call, press the volume buttons to a level that is pleasing to you.

You can also try going to Settings > General > Accessibility >Hearing Aids > Toggle on Hearing Aid Mode.
This has helped my wife and I. Especially her 5c.

The only success I've had is to put it on speaker phone when you're talking or listening.
