I put a reservation at my nearest Apple Store and when I received the confirmation email I read that you need 2 forms of ID a US credit card and a social security number. The problem is I do not have a social security number I was wondering if there was another way to check my credit as I imagine that's what the ssn is used for I tried asking around and they told me to just use my IRS numbers and I just don't want to drive 2 hours and then get denied when I get there . Thanks!

I think your best bet would be to give them a call.

I'm pretty sure you'll need a social security number. I believe all legal citizens of the USA have a SSN. Right?

Without this, there is really no way to run your credit. I don't think you'll be able to use this program.

Edit: If they said you need the IRS number, that'll have to be obtained. Good luck!

I did give them a call and they told me sure I can use it. Then I go to the chat and they tell me no I can't use it. They have been giving me 2 completely different answers and I don't know who to like trust .

I was looking online and sometimes the can see your credit report with just your current address and First and last name and DOB but idk how true this is, I'm thinking of just cancelling my reservation....

When I worked at a bank if you didn't have a SSN we filled out a W8BEN. Not sure if it works that way with loans.

That works in place of an SSN for many credit applications (which is essentially what you're doing with Apple). You'll have to contact Apple to find out if the ITIN is sufficient, but from what I understand, it is becoming more and more common for companies to use it in an SSN's absence. It is totally up to Apple though, and if they have decided not to accept those in such applications, you're SOL.

I talked to an apple representative today and he told me to just go to the reservation and just take as much information as possible because maybe the apple specialist might be able to use something else but still go either way.

They won't. You're essentially filling out a sort of credit application for the upgrade program...they're going to want to be able to precisely identify you. If the ITIN doesn't work, they're not going to make an exception for more generic pieces of identification. Good luck, but I'm 99.999999% certain that outside of that tax payer ID, you're not going to have much luck.

Thanks and I really hope it works ! Right now I have T-Mobile and I was able to finance a phone with just the Tax payer ID and everything worked fine but I wanted to try out the Apple program because of apple care +. But if it doesn't work then I'm SOL

If Tmobile took it, that should be encouraging that Apple will, since it's essentially the same kind of process.

just because you do not have a ssn does not mean you are not her in a legal fashion
I have a a friend from south africa who was here on a green card for school and it took about 6 years to now become a complete citizen - I would assume verizon or whoever would have ways to do it without a ssn
