6s Plus periodically losing BlueTooth and Wifi

Since picking up my iPhone 6s Plus, I've had a problem that occurs on average once a day. What happens is the Bluetooth stops working and as do all 2.4 Ghz WiFi networks (they won't even show up). I don't have to be connected to BlueTooth for this problem to happen. When the problem occurs 5 Ghz WiFi still works.

To fix this, I can turn off Bluetooth in Settings (which gets 2.4 Ghz WiFi working again) and turn Bluetooth back on. At that point everything works fine again until the problem happens again.

I've contacted Apple and was told to Reset Networks Settings, Reset All Settings and do a DFU restore in iTunes. I've done all that. Last time I called in I was told to do another restore and set my phone up as new, but I really don't want to do that as it's a pain in the *** to set everything back up, especially if it doesn't solve anything. I was told if that doesn't fix it, I could swap the phone, but the Apple Care Specialist doesn't think it's a hardware issue since toggling BlueTooth fixes the problem.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is here?

Put the device in DFU mode, connect it to your computer and restore it via iTunes. Afterwards, set the phone up as new. Yes, it's a PITA, but there's a good chance that it'll solve your problem.

Antenna interference of some sort would be my guess...not sure why or how, but I would take it back for a replacement or repair...should be pretty easy if you can get it to replicate, but probably won't be a problem if you can't regardless.

It's reproducible in that it happens over and over, but it's not reproducible on demand. It can take a day or two to happen.

If it was an antenna problem, I'm not sure why turning Bluetooth off and on corrects it.

I did do a DFU restore, but didn't set it up as new. I wouldn't think user data and apps could cause Bluetooth to go haywire every now and then, especially since it works most of the time.

Maybe...Maybe not...but it wouldn't hurt to cover all your bases, right?

Not sure either...but I know those modules are susceptible to electro magnetic interference given their purpose, so it's possible one or both are being affected by some kind of interference, and I just guessed antenna interference since that would be the strongest type coming into the phone, especially when it's not plugged into a power source.

Again though, just pie in the sky rambling from reading about this stuff over the years and reading your symptoms. It's why I love Apple...this kind of crap happens, I don't have a clue why or how really, and they just take care of it, lol.

This has happened to me twice in the last week. Same as the OP, I turn BT off and back on and all is good.

OP do you also have an apple watch connected? Looking for any common thread. I restored from backup when setting up my phone.

Nope, no Apple Watch. I don't even really use Bluetooth on a day to day basis, except for the handover feature in iOS. Nice to know I'm not the only person who has this problem though as it puts more stock in it being a software problem.

I filed a bug at https://bugreport.apple.com and used their Bluetooth logging profile (at their request). I noticed in the logs that there are thousands of pairing requests per day from some "headset" when I'm at home. It appears a neighbor of mine has a headset in pairing mode. I don't know if that's the cause or not.

I use BT very frequently on multiple devices. I thought that was the reason. Seeing that you aren't using BT in the same way but still having an occasional issue makes me think software as well.

It didn't happen for two days, but it happened again overnight and again this afternoon. That's twice in less than 24 hours.

Hey are you having this problem on a 6s or 6s Plus or some other device?

The only device I have this problem on is my new 6s Plus. My old iPhone 5s didn't have the problem.

edit:

Never mind, I read a post of yours in another thread where you wrote you have a 6s Plus, same as me.

Against my better judgements I've restored and set up my device as new. I also made a genius appointment as I expect I'll see this issue before then.

Well less than 24 hours after restoring and setting up as new, I've lost Bluetooth and 2.4 Ghz Wifi again.

Wasted almost an entire day setting everything up again and I lost call history and things like that.

Looking forward to what Apple has to say. Please report back

The senior care Apple Care person said I should swap the phone for a new one and then set it up as new (for awhile at least). I would assume since I already set up as new, that would eliminate a software issue, but whatever. If the problem continues to happen, then it's got to be a bug in the software.

So far you are the only other person I've seen report the same problem I'm having. That's 2 people out of several million. I'd think if this was a software issue, that I'd see more reports, but it also doesn't seem like a hardware problem. I'm hoping the device swap fixes the problem because if it doesn't, I really don't know what to do other than "live with it" which I don't want to do.

3 people out of millions does not usually equate to a widespread software issue, in my opinion. You mentioned in a previous post, "I noticed in the logs that there are thousands of pairing requests per day from some "headset" when I'm at home. It appears a neighbor of mine has a headset in pairing mode." That could indeed be the problem. I think you also stated that you did not use Bluetooth a lot. If that's true, turn the Bluetooth feature off until you're ready to pair it with one of your Bluetooth products.
