Hi, so have an iPhone 6 that has had as much use as you could imagine since new. It tends to last as long as I need it with a charge boost in the day. BUT!!! When I charge it at night to 100% and take it off at about 4/5am I can guarantee it will be dead when I wake at 7. Have taken off push notifications, updated to latest software, using Apple charger, close all apps at night.
Strange as it seems to drain when idle more than when used.

    That’s very weird!
If that’s the case, why don’t you just leave it plugged in until you wake up?

Strange. Go to Settings > Battery, tap on the little clock icon just above your usage, then check your battery usage. Do you have any apps that are using up an abnormally large amount of battery, specifically while running in the background? Does running in low power mode make a difference?
Also, are you still running on your iPhone’s original battery? If it gets a lot of use and you’ve had it since 2014/2015 it’s likely that your battery is running at pretty diminished capacity. I’d consider having Apple put in a new battery, especially while they’re currently offering $29 (USD) replacements.
