Purchased iphone6 today and need help with setting up Apple ID

I purchased an iphone6 for my daughter today on verizon. It's asking me to create an Apple ID and then create an email address?

What address do I put in there for her? She does not currently have an email account. I only have a gmail account so not sure how to answer this.

Please clarify. Thanks.

Create an email address of your choice for her and then use that address.
