Why isn't my reply on locked screen not working?

Reply on locked screen not working

hi.... I use an iPhone 6 and even though on a locked screen I get a slide to reply option when I receive a text message, when I do slide, it just shows a cross ! Which means I have to unlock the phone and then reply to the message. Help please !!!
