Was Find My iPhone enabled? You should also contact your carrier.

Yea. If they get it and it's not locked they can reset it. If you set it up and it locks on them then they would need you Apple ID to reset it

If you have the box, it has the IMEI and ICCID and your carrier also has this so they can turn it off and make it impossible to use. However, locating it will be nearly impossible. Until it is shut down they can use it though. I hope you have a backup device. Sorry for your troubles.

If it's unlocked, yes. They can use with any gsm provider.

Contact the carrier and report. Have them turn it off. If you have insurance you can use that.

    Good Luck

If you have a passcode lock then no. You're saying unlocked as in carrier unlocked?

Even with a pass code, if find my iPhone wasn't enabled it can be reset and used.

If the phone is sim unlocked, even worse.

I usually never get protection on my iPhone's, but this time around I decided I was, can't risk it getting lost or stolen

I lost my Iphone 6 also. Have you received your replacement yet?? I've been waiting for three weeks and I'm going CRAZY. T-Mobile says it can take 2 to 6 weeks. Insurance has no ETA.

I'm so sorry for your trouble.
    When you get your replacement:
    Set up a password lock
    Set up Find My iPhone
    Set up two point authentication
Set up insurance through your carrier
Also set up Apple Care. That won't help with theft but it's a good investment.

If you didn't have "Find My iPhone" on and you lost it; nothing you can really do at this point. They can reset the phone and use it.

Seems like a serious of unfortunate events played out here.

OP, if you didn't utilize Find My iPhone and hence Activation Lock, your phone will be usable on other carriers. As this is also factory unlocked, there is no carrier protection.

For any smartphone, you should take stock of what you purchased and jot down all serial numbers should your device become lost or stolen. You will want your phone locked down remotely if possible, and at the very least unusable on most cellular networks. An iPhone can be reset and encryption will take care of the rest. On an Android it isn't so cut and dry. I imagine many people are shocked - shocked - to find out their photos that they "deleted" are still recoverable on an Android device running stock firmware without any encryption enabled.

Apple makes the process seamless to the consumer and affords options such as AppleCare+ to take care of the incidentals and leave you with a device that - at minimum - will last for several years. At the very least you should take advantage of Apple's security offerings as they will in the very least safeguard your data and make your phone less desirable with thieves. AppleCare+ won't address a stolen phone, but the pittance you pay with the carrier for insurance keeps your replacement options a little more open.

If you don't want to invest this kind of money or take the additional safeguards, don't spend the money on a premium device such as this.
