I updated and can't make any calls. I am downloading the previous build from this site to see if I can restore it as previous version. Yikes! Will keep you informed how it goes ...

Issues may be from the OTA updates... Connecting to iTunes and restoring or updating should be OK.

FYI: There are no downloads for 8.0.1 for iPhone 6 in developer account as this is what came with the phone so they don't bother to provide it online.

Hitting Restore in iTunes doesn't do anything to the phone presently. You get the prompts and then nothing happens.

8.0.2 coming in a few days.

One important thing to know about recovering from this: use iTunes backup not iCloud backup. iCloud backups can't be used when going back a version. The iTunes backup can.

Question...I didn't do the update yesterday, but I still have an alert (on the settings icon) saying 1 update available. When I go into the settings, general, sw update, there's nothing there saying up to date on 8.0. Does anyone else have this notification? BTW, I didn't even download 8.0.1, so I have no idea why this is showing up.

    Thanks in advance.

Yep I do but can't get rid of it. Hopefully when a good update comes along, it'll go away

Thankfully I didn't update my phone yesterday. I did update my iPad though. I will wait for the new update in a few days.
