did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
Honestly, even though the 6 plus has a better battery and camera, I couldn't really get over the size of the thing. I still like to do something's one handed with the device , and from what I've experienced with the LG G3 the device size doesn't fit comfortably in my jeans pocket.
But as a tech geek I feel weird not going with the better specced device. It really came down to usability over specs I guess.

The iPhone 6 should be really easy to deal with especially if you like to use your phone with one hand. The iPhone 6 is the same size screen as the Moto X from 2013 and was hands down perhaps the best device to use one handed last year. I don't think you made a bad choice and the iPhone 5S camera was still the all round best one around without OIS so you are not giving up too much. In my case the Nokia devices have spoiled me with their awesome camera/software but the iPhone is no slouch in that department either so I think you will be fine.

Here is a comparison between the 2013 Moto X and the new iPhone 6. You are going to be pretty happy with your purchase...

Yeah, my main thing I was giving up I think was a better battery. So, well see how the 6 holds up.

No, You ordered the right mobile.
-
Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
Well, a tech savvy friend of mine did point out that while some specs may appear better with the Plus, the 6 being smaller with the same processor will be faster.
-
Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
No you should be excited for the 6 and don't question your decision. I'll break down the supposed 3 spec upgrades on the 6 Plus compared to the 6..
1. Screen resolution... In all the hands on the difference between the 2 are not even noticeable to the naked eye. The 4.7" screen does not need 1080P, all it would do is drain the battery quicker.
2. Battery life... Either way you will need to charge both phones or top them off once a day if you use them with any regularity. Even more so with the Plus because you will be tempted to watch more videos, etc on it because of the larger screen therefore draining the battery quicker. Besides, my iPhone 5's battery is fine and the 6 is even better so I'm satisfied.
3. Camera... So the Plus has IOS and yes that is a nice feature but to be honest my 5 took amazing pictures and once again Apple has improved it even further with the 6. And if I am going on vacation or somewhere where I want amazing pics I have my Sony NEX-6 for that.
In summary, these small improvements over the 6 is not worth giving up portability, better pocketability, better one handed use and just a better overall feel in the hand. The size of the 4.7 seems to be the sweet spot IMO when it comes to a phone and everyday use. I have my iPad Air when I need a "big" screen.

The way to decide if you got the wrong device is to get a coin and assign heads to one of the iPhone 6 models and tails to the other. Then flip it high into the air. Before it lands, you will instinctively know which way you want it to land, either heads or tails. Your subconscious 'gut instinct' is never wrong in matters like this.
At the end of the day though. Yes you weren't definitely wrong, no absolutely yes never. Are we clear?
By this I mean, we don't really know if it was the wrong one for you at all as we do not know you outside of these forums. Maybe it would be better to ask a real life friend or family member who actually knows the real you, rather than complete strangers, some in completely different countries.

In terms of dimensions I would compare the Nexus 5 dimensions with the 6 as they are pretty much an exact fit. I had the Nexus 5 and it was the perfect fit for my hands and my pockets. The screen is 4.95 inches so with the 6 I lose the Nexus 5's status bar which is not a deal breaker to me. Get your hands on a Nexus 5 for sizing.
The 6 Plus is taller than the LG3 and is more comparable to the OnePlus One.

Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
It's a question that isn't fair to pose seeing as none of us have used either of the two to give you a fair answer on.
The great thing about it is that if you feel you made a mistake (or if we convince you, which seems what you're looking for), then you can just exchange the thing. Or get an Android device. Or a Windows device. I don't know. Something.

You always have 14 days to return and supplies are better with the 6 so the wait won't be bad if you decide to go that route.

I'm in the same boat. Pre-ordered the 6 Plus, but am afraid it's too big. Just waiting now for it to arrive to test. At least we can return for the 4.7 which I think will be more available than the 5.5 hopefully.

If you don't like it, return it. Apple has a 14-day return policy.

Here is my take on the "one handed" issue.
I use my 5S two handed 75-80% of the time and the other one handed.
So why should I want screen based on the minority of it's usage?

I'm similar. I do the thing where I hold it in my left hand and peck the screen with one finger.
But I'm think more from a portability aspect. I noticed on my G3 that it was pretty tight in my pocket. And I was worried it would bend or break when I sat down with it in my front jeans pocket.

I'm not a one handed user of my 5S either. More often then not I'm typing with both thumbs. If I am using it one handed it's propped up against something and I'm only using one finger to interact.

Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
So I went ahead and canceled my iphone 6 order. Honestly, I'm not much of a one handed user, so the bigger screen is a added bonus.
The problem is that now it's saying I can't do another upgrade. So I'm hoping after a day or so the cancelation will get back to att and my upgrade will be open again.
I think I'm gonna have to use them in person to decide on anything.

Well... there you go!
As far as AT&T, it takes 24 hours usually to clear a cancelation, to be able to upgrade.

Cool.
Yeah. And really, I wouldn't get either phone until oct. Or nov. anyway due to demand. And who know, maybe iOS 8 will be enough so I can keep my 5S till next year. I don't know how I feel about dropping 800 bucks on a new phone when mine is working fine right now.

You will still have better battery life than the 5s. I was leaning towards the 6 Plus because so many on the forums were getting it. But I may just get the 6. For the same price, I can get 128 gb instead of 64 gb with the Plus.

Yes! That happen to me last year when I ordered the 5s through T-Mobile.com. I had to wait a day to buy it in store because it still showed I had upgraded, even though I had canceled the order.
-
Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
I ordered both for this exact reason. Once I carry them & use them, I'll decide which one I'll be keeping.

Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
It will be really interesting to see the reactions once people start getting their 6's and 6 Plus's. I have a feeling a lot of folks that ordered the 6 Plus just because it had "better specs" (ie. battery, screen res and OIS) will find out the hard way that it's just "TOO big". Others, knowing they want the 5.5 screen no matter what, will probably be happy.
There will probably also be the 6 buyers that will determine they really do want something a bit bigger.
And then there'll be the 6 owners that experience the Goldilocks reaction - of it being "just right". :)
-
Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
So, I decided I'm going to reorder the 6. I've been reading reviews and it seems like the plus is just too big.
Now I'm waiting for my upgrade to reset at att. Hopefully by tomorrow.

Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
It isn't really the wrong choice if it's what works for you :)

Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?

At this point, reordering now vs Friday won't make a difference. So why don't you go into a store on Fri, play with both extensively and make a more informed decision? There's only so much you can surmise from watching videos and reading reviews.
-
Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
Many people are going through the same dilemma as you. I too as well changed my mind last minute and went with the 6 over the 6 plus on preorder night. Although I'm back and forth with my decision still remind myself I have 14 days to return/exchange. Yeah, I will probably have to wait a little if I want to get the 6 plus but at least I won't be stuck with a phone I regret getting for 2 years. Luckily I have a family member who got the 6 plus so I can compare and decide for sure what I want once we get them on Friday.
Overall I still feel like I made the right decision going with the 6.
-
Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
I'm waiting till I can see and touch the 6 and 6 Plus on Friday.
Definitely am upgrading -- kidded myself for a bit that I'd wait for the 6s.
Tentatively the 6 makes more sense, but it may be that the 6 Plus blows us all away.

I personally have nothing at all against the OP and I would imagine no one commenting does either. The issue is the type of question. How can anyone here possibly know if the OP made a mistake in his/her choice? A choice that is purely subjective and comes down to personal wants and needs that only the OP can place value on. Right now, the forums are flooded with these types of crowd-sourced affirmation questions.
"Should I get the 6 or the 6+?"
"Should I wait in line or preorder?"
"Should I get the 6 or wait for the 6S?"
"Should I get the 6+ or the Note 4?"
These are questions that just cannot be answered by our members and given such, I think some are about at their breaking point. There comes a time when someone simply needs to sit down, do their homework, think things through as they relate to themselves, and make a decision. Now, if someone seeks advice that transcends beyond personal needs and opinions? Then yes, absolutely, the forums are here to serve that need.

Word.
Maybe I am reading into things too much. For me it's easy. 6+ is too big, not just too big, it's silly big. And not worth it for the OIS or the better battery. I'll get the iPhone 6 when the time is right and enjoy using my phone with one hand and carrying my phone without it being a burden. I used the Note 2 (slightly smaller than the iPhone 6+) after about 2 weeks it was clear I had made a huge mistake (literally). I think quite a few people will be in this same position if the iPhone 6+ is their first phablet device. A big phone seems cool on paper, real world use isn't so great. And of course this is MY experience/opinion.

That is where I am leaning as well. I am torn because I would like the 1080p, OIS, and this 2-day battery life that is being experienced in the week-long reviews coming out. I would also love that big 5.5" screen when I am sitting down using the phone. But, I am a one-handed user as well and that is where the 6 pulls me in. I want to maintain one-handed use, ease of fit in my clothes, etc. I wouldn't have to change my daily use at all with the 6. I'm going to try both out first before making a decision though. There is only so much I can tell from watching videos and messing around with templates :)

Yep. I'm small and I have small hands, using my Note 3 felt like navigating the Queen Elizabeth II on a duck pond. The 6 is totally the sweet spot for me. From speaking with a tech savvy friend of mine, it may be that the battery life will be fine: it is a smaller device. So, maybe not stellar, but ok. I'm good with that. Also, it will probably be faster than the 6 plus because while it is smaller, both devices have the same processor. But only using it for a few days will clench it.

Future nurse? Good for you man I have a couple buddies in the field and 1 buddy doing clinicals now. Awesome career choice!
As for fitting in pockets, the 6+ will be fine in most. More noticeable? Sure. But certainly doable as a tradeoff for what you get.

I'm not saying this to discourage you or poke any more fun. You really should just wait for the release of both phones and at least just go to a store and play with the display models to see what you have a better feel for. Otherwise you'll just be stuck in making spontaneous purchases that you're not sure of.

Doing the clinical thing as well. Scrubs are the attire for the rest of my working life, and those pockets can fit/hide quite a bit. Lol.
I also agree that Friday will be here soon and I'm going to try and at least touch the both of them. That way when I do make a decision, it's the right decision for me.

Re: did I make a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?
I think the iPhone 6 is the more appropriately sized device between the two. I owned a Galaxy Note 3 for awhile and found it was too big for everyday things. Don't get me wrong the size was nice when I bought it but I quickly started realizing how inconveniencing it was. I couldn't easily fit it into shorts when I went running, I had to take it out of my pockets when I wore jeans and sat down, and it was a no-go it tight khaki shorts.
I don't even wear small clothes since I'm 6'1 but it was still pretty taxing.

Well, here's what I have planned out. After going through about 2 hours of hell at the art and apple store to try and eligibility freed up, I'm going to try and get to the Apple store early on Friday and see if I can play with demo units. And if I decide to still go with the 6, try and snag one or the plus on launch day. I still think I'm gonna favor the 6, but at this point I should play with both just to be sure. If I can't get something on Friday, I'll just order and get it when I get it.
The issue was that because the order was canceled, and art still has it counting as my upgrade, I know have to either see if it gets restarted on its own or talk to some special art apple rep that will be at the store on Friday. If I just kept the order then just did a return when it arrived, it would be a lot easier. But now my upgrade is stuck in this stupid limbo between apples online store and art. Again, my hope is by Friday it will fix itself.

i had the same thought. Just feel like I'm stupid if i don't get the better spec, but I really don't like the size of 6+, too big for me.
So, I pre-ordered the 6, because I think if I really wanna take good pic, I won't use smartphone, and if I use the phone to take pic, so far I'm ok
with the 5S and S3 camera.

They'll fix your issue in store when you go to purchase it. But you create your own headaches with all this worrying. Iphone 6's will be super easy to find going forward. It's the Plus that won't. You're not going to have time to play around with demo units on Friday morning because there's a huge *** line. Your goal should be simple. Get there early and get a Plus. If you don't like it later, then exchange it for an iphone 6.

What makes you think you made a mistake going for the 6 over the 6 plus?

This! One thousand times this! Except I don't do the shorts thing.
I am a big guy, with big hands yet I still hated my Note 3 for the sheer ridiculous size of the thing (oh and the incredibly flaky OS but that's by the by). It was like holding a brick to my ear. The iPhone 6+ is taller yet slightly narrower.
iPhone 6+ = 6.22 x 3.06 x 0.28 inches (158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1 mm)
Note 3 = 5.95 x 3.12 x 0.33 inches (151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm)

Honestly I just can't see myself liking the size of the plus. While it would be cool to have something that could replace a mini tablet, I'm just thinking it's not going to be portable enough.
