Because it is a developers conference and is all about software. No reputable rumors thought any hardware would be announced today.

Because it's WWDC. Software focused. My guess is there will be a hardware event late summer to announce new iOS and Mac hardware.

We will have to see over the next few days but WWDC is all about software so it's unlikely any new products will be introduced... I could be wrong, we will see

I agree with everyone else. WWDC is a developers conference. I expect Apple will announce new hardware in a couple months.

A new Apple device is 'A Big Deal'™ so I reckon that if they were going to mention one during WWDC they would have done it at the Keynote.

First of all, we were NEVER going to see iPhone or iPad hardware at WWDC. As far as other hardware, we may see iMac, MBPr and Mac Mini refreshes soon - irrespective of the WWDC timing.

Yeah yeah I know it's developers conference, but didn't they announce new Mac Pro on WWDC 2013? I think they actually did. So why wouldn't they do something like that on this year's wwdc. and to all of you being so smart telling me that this is ''only'' software focused, here is a proove that it isn't. go to 52m20s

    enjoy.

You asked why an iPhone was not mentioned. That is your original question. You did not ask about any other hardware.
Was an "IPHONE" announced at 2013's WWDC? No
Was an "IPHONE" announced at 2012's WWDC? No
Was an "IPHONE" announced at 2011's WWDC? No

The only person surprised by this is you.

Yes, my queation was about iPhone. But answers were strictly reffering to "it is only developers, software thingy" so my post above is for them. To proove that it isn't only software thingy.

One could argue that the Mac Pro was more a “developer-class” machine than a phone would be.

It's unusual. But no, it hasn't happened. The iPhone hasn't been announced at WWDC. Don't count on seeing the new phone before Sept. That's about the year cycle you should be used to seeing.

But you asked the question "why"? No one here knows "why". Only Apple does.

Perhaps a better discussion point would have been that you were disappointed (or how ever you felt) about it not being mentioned in the keynote address.

If they announced it months before the release, it would steal the thunderous shebang from the big unveiling in September.

I'm thinking some details may still be left. They may not be willing to share any information on an unfinished product. That and there is a lot more media coverage in this day and age. They would probably like to keep it under wraps until the September unveiling.
