iMac 2010 running system isn't recognising iPhone 6plus one iOS

6 months ago when I last uploaded my photos everything went smoothly. Today my iMac does't or won't recognise my iPhone. in fact Photos on my iMac says there are no photos on my iPhone?

So how can I overcome this issue, please?

You’ll want to make sure you have iCloud Photo Library enabled on your iPhone AND your Mac.
