itunes not recognizing updated ios software

my 6+ has 9.2.1 and it is syncd and backed up in the most current iTunes version on windows 8, but every time I first plug in into iTunes it asks me if I want to update to 9.2.1..
what gives?

Are you sure it's the same build? Were you ever on the 9.2.1 beta? Are you simply plugging your phone in or are you booting into recovery or DFU?

It's doing the same thing to our 6 and our 6+. I'm curious about it too.

This happened to me. I ran the update anyway and the message went away.

no i never installed a beta. and it is the same build, as indicated in settings/software update. and im just plugging it in as i always do, to itunes in normal pc mode.
for the first time i updated the iphone ios (in this case to 9.2.1.) via itunes, as opposed to via iphone settings/wifi, which is how i always did, previously.
not sure if that can be the issue.
my internet is att wifi and limited, so I wanted to avoid read downloading the software because it would be a waste of a couple of gigs, or whatever it is.
