I am new to iOS, coming from android and I was wondering if you needed to clear cache every once and a while from apps? I know on android you had to at least 3times a week of you wanted your phone to run smoothly

No, it is not necessary. I even go months without restarting my iPhone.

It's not necessary, but helps if you're hard pressed for space. Many apps have the option to delete cache. Many don't need it. Some like Facebook grow huge with no option to delete cache. You must delete those apps, then reinstall them back. That deletes the cache. There's an app called Battery Doctor that is good for pushing out cache.
