It was a real photo of a dress someone wore to a wedding. The dress is really blue/black but to a large number of people it appears white/gold. No photoshopping just a trick of the light or something in the pic. Apparently it was originally posted to a wedding guest's Tumblr blog. As for why it went viral, who knows. It is interesting because it's not like an optical illusion where if you stare at it long enough you can see both versions. Most people just continue to see the same colors.

I still only see white and gold.

Me too. Even when I see two pics of that dress side by side, the one that caused all those issues still looks white and gold to me.

That proves it, geniuses see white and gold!
