I just got a iPhone 6 plus and I restored from my iPhone 5 backup. I have heard some people like to set up there device as new rather than restore from backup. What are the pros and cons of setting up as new versus restoring from backup?

Some people just do it to start fresh. I personally just restore from a backup even if it's from another phone and it works fine for me unless I start to encounter problems. Then I'll just restore as new.

In my experience setting up from a backup gets me up and running right away with all my apps in their respective folders and my settings as they were.
But I've experienced some issues from a backup when I went 5S to 6 Plus. Just some erratic behavior and Touch ID being hit or miss. A restore as new solved any issues I was having.

It can be a drag to set up all your stuff again from a restore as new but it's worth it. When I restore from a backup I expect some quirks and stuff but I usually deal with until I feel like doing a restore as new. It's not a given that you will have issues with a backup that's just my experience.

I always restore from backup. I haven't setup as new since I had a iPhone 4 back in 2010-11

Restore from backup here as well for every iPhone I've ever used. I like keeping my exact same settings and phone call records and text messages get transferred over too.

Same here I initially recovered my backup but I decided to start fresh and it solved my issues, it's a pain to screenshot screens and folders but it made a huge difference, now when I went from the fresh install backup of my space gray 6+ to my white 6+ I didn't have any issues at all

Restore from an iTunes backup, it's a lot cleaner install than from an iCloud backup & you don't have the hassle of not getting everything you may want back on the phone when you set up as new.

I can see the pros of setting up as new. With apps using cloud storage such as iCloud, Dropbox, etc I wouldn't lose any files. However, I do have some apps that do not sync to a cloud service in which I would lose that information. One example is TuneIn Radio Pro. I have some recordings I'd like to keep and they don't have a backup to cloud option. I also have a game or two that don't have that option either so I would lose all my progress.
