I want to get the phone using my AT&T upgrade from an AT&T store, unlock it, and then give it to my dad who's on T-Mobile. How long does it usually take before an unlock comes out? I don't want to stand in the long Apple Store lines tomorrow so was going to go to AT&T instead.

What do you mean "before an unlock comes out"? If you don't buy an unlocked phone, you are going to have to initiate an unlock either via AT&T or via the numerous & sometimes unscrupulous unlock sites found everywhere online. AT&T unlock policy can be viewed via the following link.
