How do I create a second Apple ID?

My husband and I have the same Apple ID password on our phones, which means that he has some of my info and I end up with his. this happens particularly when the phones are updated.
Is there a way for me to create a new ID for myself without deleting the original one for my husband?

His will always be there if you log in to it with his credentials. If it's just the 2 of you, I would leave his credentials for iTunes. That way you can continue to share purchases. Just create a new iCloud, iMessage and Facetime ID's. For iCloud, follow these instructions.

You'll have to log in with his credentials. Then follow directions.
