my phone doesn't stay charged?

recently my friend gave me his ail broken iphone 5s, he told me it dies at 99% so i have to keep it on the charger at all times. but even when it's on the charger it dies. i know i need to take it to a store but i dont have the money for the repair.

Then what are you expecting us to tell you? There's a reason your "friend" no longer wanted the device, and you already know it probably needs a replacement battery. If you don't have the money for it now, save what you get until you're able to buy a replacement battery for it.

Your battery is shot. Pretty straight forward.
Apple's iPhone batteries are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity for 500 full charge cycles. After that you're on borrowed time.

The Apple store charges $79.00 to install a new battery.
