    Recently, my iPhone 5s started only charging intermittently, then not at all. I tried very hard to get it charging again, but eventually the 'empty battery' icon disappeared and the screen was left totally black. I have since replaced both the lightning port assembly and the battery myself (without obviously messing up, save tearing the TouchID cable), but have never been able to charge it nor seen anything other than a black screen, despite the new battery. I'm not sure whether I simply haven't fixed the initial problem, or whether I've managed to cause additional problems along the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sounds like a battery issue and you should schedule an Apple store visit.

    Yup! Sounds like something may be shot. I'd think the battery but you replaced it. Hopefully with a working battery.

    Check another charging cable to be sure. If it's still the same, take it in.
