why does my fingerprint scanner only work 2 or 3 times before quitting on 5s which has updated os?

I have reinstalled many times and each time the scanner works; a few hrs later, it does not. I have deleted and reinstalled many times with the same result. I purchased the S v over the C because of the scanner feature, and it seems to be a dud. Please advise.

Sounds like an issue you need to take to an Apple GeniusBar for evaluation and what warranty options may be available.
