Trying to understand. Your having a charger connection issue?

Are you using an official Apple charger cable and is your charging port free of lint

I get the following now while using my Amazon Basics power cable. It's worked for over a year and this just started yesterday. WTF?

The cable doesn't have the Apple chip in it that's the reason for the above message

Blackberry also has used branded USB. Not all USB cables will work with Blackberry products. You just got lucky. Try plugging a USB cable from a Nook into a Playbook then, try synching.
