*Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Hello,
With the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 and the leaked specs coming out, will this be enough for you to want upgrade to the 5S? Or do you believe the S series will be outdated when it finally does arrive as compared to the software and hardware being offered by Samsung?

*Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
To be honest, it won't have any effect on me at all. I, without a doubt whatsoever, will be purchasing an iPhone...either the current 5 or its successor. Specs, I've come to learn, are irrelevant if the mobile experience isn't fluid, simple and pleasing in regard to how I use it. Take the camera, for instance. The camera on the 4S is more than enough for 'me' so if the next device comes with a 13+ MP camera, I won't give it a second thought because I'm not some kid running around snapping pictures all day long and posting them on social sites. Besides, I own a Nikon D90 DSLR camera and I use it when I want to take what I consider serious photos. Anyway, thanks for posting the questions. Take care. :)

For most smartphone users its not about which phone has the latest specs or newest OS. It's about what platform gives you the experience. Apple has consistently delivered the best experience for a smartphone, even more so with each subsequent device release.
Sure, the new Sammy may have a quad core processor or 12 MP camera, but that doesn't mean it'll outperform the new iPhone. Apple builds their devices for what the OS needs to perform at top speed. Their phones don't need quad core to support the OS. Android phones are getting dual and quad cores and still having lag issues.
In the end, it's all about choosing which experience and ecosystem you want. My choice is Apple and will remain that way unless there is a better option. It's not Android, WP, and definitely not BlackBerry 10.

Absolutely not. I don't care how fancy and "cool" the galaxy s series is. I will always remain faithful to my iPhone.

*Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Nope. Doesn't matter how good the hardware is if the OS lags (and Android always will, due the way it's designed).
Hardware specs mean nothing. It's all about useability. iOS runs like butter, Android lags (it's better with Jellybean, but still not as fluid). I had an HTC One XL, and although the hardware was awesome, JB still lagged even though I had it running a custom rom and kernel....and it was overclocked.
I am sticking with Apple.

Probably not. Never say never buy I haven't been a fan of Samsung phones to date. I don't like the plastic they use for their casings. Also they seem more throw-everything against the wall when it comes to features.
The HTC One interests me more.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
The HTC One does look good. That threads keep popping up Samsung is just a testament to Samsung's marketing.
I'm good with the iphone 5 though for another year. The way things are going, the retina Mini ipad might be my next phone...

Exactly this for me too. I had a SGS3 and it felt terribly flimsy and there was definite torsion in the device too. I'm way more interested in the new HTC One and will be watching that closely to see if it is worth getting rid of my work phone SGS2 and buying the HTC instead.

Nope. Very happy with iPhone 5. It works very well.

Happily looking forward to the 5S, no GS4 for me 😊

Beat the crap out of Apple? How will it be judged? By specs or by sales? If by sales, you are most likely in for a surprise ... ;)

I agree, the experience and how fluid the OS is more important than the specs.

Exactly my thought as well. The HTC One hardware has me intrigued. I sense that is in my future as my next toy.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I think the real question is "Will the iPhone 5s bring anything new to the table/Does it need to?" or "Will the SGS4 bring anything worthwhile to the table?".
iPhone 5 is great hardware, but brought nothing compelling in terms of features. 5S will likely be another spec bump, mostly in the camera department, and hopefully something compelling in terms of features - maybe an innovative use for NFC.
SGS4 is looking like another big phone in a sea of big phones with some radical new features that have limited novelty appeal (looking at you, eye scrolling).
Chances are, happy iPhone people will not jump ship. I'm with Rene's assessment that perfecting its exclusive services is the most important thing Apple can do with iOS. Keep making Siri more accurate and more capable. Keep making Maps better. Improve the reliability of iCloud/Messages/etc.
-
Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
To be honest, unless the trend ends, I dont see a point in upgrading from the 5 to the 5S. Let me guess, the chipset will be faster and have an "X" at the end of its name. The camera may be better and the lens will be designed to take in even more light.
the iphone 4 to the 5 was a jump. Not as big as it could have been, but a good upgrade. iphones ending in "S" are something that this tech lover will stay away from.

Absolutely. I don't see either bringing much new to the table. It depends on android and iOS. Not the hardware.
But this is the reason why Apple's stock is tanking. Even with a retina mini or a bigger iphone, the problems remain the same for Apple.
Getting a grip on marketing and the message they push out is problem number one for Apple. Invest in software and ecosystem. The odds of Apple finding another "perfect product" like the iphone is slim. Being able to sell a premium product at mainstream prices with help from carriers is hard to reproduce.
The immediate concerns for apple should always be that iphone. It's their most important product. It's absolutely unbelievable they don't have a bigger screened branded iphone launching this year (if the rumors are true that it's not forthcoming this year). Sure, it could come next year but that's an awful long time to concede that space to the competition. A retina plus 4.8" iphone could make the HTC One or S4 look silly. It'd only be a bandaid for what is really hurting Apple but it'd be a well placed one that could help give them time or at least right the marketing ship.
When I read articles that Apple could reasonably release a bigger iphone with the same resolution, I just roll my eyes. A non retina (ok...a lower ppi) iphone? That's just stupid. Sure, it would sell. But the damage would be done. The media would have a field day comparing this to phones like the HTC One or S4. Apple may as well release a "kick me" sign.

Exactly my thoughts and Words, Rene! :) I have never been a fan of Samsung Galaxy series for the same reason. I like the HTC One, though, in terms of looks and features. I might have HTC one in addition to my iPhone but not as a replacement.

Anti-Apple people come here and spew this garbage constantly and are always gone by the time numbers are released and they were wrong. And if anyone believes Apple has "nothing left", I really can't say much but say I find it highly amusing.

While he is.....baseless at best he has a point. What he is trying to say is that the law of diminishing returns will hold true for Apple...which is why you see less and less ideas implemented not to mention, they often times bemoan something, only to take it up later. I wouldn't be surprised if they diss the Blackberry Z10 for being DOA saying LED's are dead on arrival....only to make an LED notification light up around the home button or something.
Anyway yea, diminishing returns, it just means the more upgrades the less you notice. The graphical jump from SNES to N64....huge, the jump from Wii to Wii U...not huge...visually. Even though it was still an impressive jump from a tech standpoint, from our eyes, it is hard to see.
Making a phone more powerful, with a smoother OS, and longer battery life, with a sharp screen, AND thinner....that is an engineering marvel. But, we as humans are bad at judging 2.4 millimeters or a few ounces...so these upgrades seem minor.
Anyway, back to the point...this topic is kinda silly. Will a phone of the near future make me not want a phone of the later future.....how can anyone honestly even answer that?
But all hypothetical questions aside we already know the deal. Samsung is about specs...which don't mean much to most people. If I gave my mother a European sports car...she would still go to church, go to work, and get groceries and back out of the driveway slowly.
The phone/car doesn't change who you are or what you do...unless it limits you. And no phone out from any competitor really limits you, besides a limitation of what apps you can download...but other than that; S5, Z10, Windows 8, i5S....they will all do what they were meant to do, just because another phone came out, doesn't mean they will suck or stop working.

It's a damn Samsung at the end of the day! Sure it will have more and new features. Many iPhone users, like myself are already too attached in the apple ecosystem. Specially when you own iPads and MacBooks. Apple is beyond specs and features.

*Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
One should note, Apple always had a superior architecture for its processor especially in the GPU department. Realize the next Galaxy is probably going to be using the same GPU on the new iPad in a single core config. rather than a multicore config. Even now, the 4S outperform an extraordinary amount of devices with the new Qualcomm S4 finally being one of the few chipsets to outperform Apple A5.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Let's be honest, Siri drove the 4S sales. Personally, I thought the hardware changes were great and well worth it. But I'm not everyone else. Apple will need another "Siri" for the 5S especially when the iphone 5 is already blazing fast with LTE, still sports one of the best cameras in a phone, and will be hard to improve much on in those aspects. So far I've heard fingerprint sensor and NFC. Not every exciting.
Of course, that's where iOS 7 comes in and the big hope that Apple has some sweeping changes along with ecosystem features.
For Samsung, it's the same android. Like with the S3, any new half baked features will be powered by bloatware from Samsung. The only thing the masses care about is the bigger screen as Samsung's marketing machine hums right along.

Wait so same old android but with a bigger screen? The almost describes what the iPhone 5 is, still makes it great.
Half baked features, that is what Siri was when first released. In androids defense it has changed a lot where iOS hasn't changed much recently.
So I'm not sure why your bagging on android for the same things.
Anyways i think I'll pass on the gs4 personally. I think it will be a nice device but I would rather have the htc one.

Exactly. They both fight the same way, it isn't anything mind blowing. This isn't like you are breaking a vow or anything, experience all the phones you can and if you come back it shows it was meant to be!

I'm talking specifically Samsung features/software. Not android. One is bloatware. The other is an OS made by google. I'm not "bagging" on android.
The iphone 5 came with a new version of iOS. You can argue about Maps and whatnot, but it was an update from iOS 5.
The S4 will boast a version of android that debuted in Oct 2012 (along with nexus 4 and 10). Any Key Lime Pie update won't be seen til end of year or later depending on when Samsung gets around to updating its bloatware UI and ruining what's good about android. Any "new" halfbaked features of the S4 will be hardware and Samsung bloatware related. Not android.
Siri may be useless for some, but it did in fact drive 4S sales. Apple hammered it in every commercial practically. It's part of iOS. Unlike S Voice or whatever Samsung calls their bloatware version of Siri.

Honestly I don't think he had much of anything going for him besides trolling. And like I've said in other conversations in these forums regarding Android vs iOS, software is more important than hardware specs. Of course a new phone on the market will have better specs than a device 8-12 months old. That's common sense but make no mistake, Android is no where near as polished as iOS at this point. You can take Android's latest and greatest device and still get it to lag and it's not due to that hardware. It's the software and this is not the case with iOS devices. So Samsung can throw out all of these impressive hardware specs but at the end of the day it doesn't mean much to someone like me who knows better. And yes I have Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 along with my iPhone 5 and iPad mini so before anyone tries saying I'm biased, I'm not.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
A retina plus 4.8" iphone could make the HTC One or S4 look silly. the htc droid dna on verizon has a 1080i 441 pixel per inch display.... retina is 226 pixels per inch? you can bet the htc one which is an upgrade droid dna will have at least the same display. apple is no longer the king in that department, but a wide margin. i have an ipod touch 5 ( blue ) and the dna , touch 5 has retina and well dna has 1080i in a five inch display, there is no contest.I am not downing apple but it is time to stop playing catch up and start leading again.

You are a tech fan , like myself. apple's apps are much easier to use like banking etc etc etc on the ipad and just work and well. android , a person can get deeper into the os retool refashion rework. its all a matter of preference, as for me i prefer being able to get into the nuts and bolts of my phones add files where i want them when i want them.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I find myself becoming bored with my phone within a few months so, I'm constantly bartering and swapping to find my next device. I must say that I have never really been impressed with Samsung phones. I've owned the S2, Note and S3 just to name a few of the many. My largest complaint with all of these devices (and possibly just Android in general) is battery life... I've not owned the iPhone 5 but would like to. I read the posts on here about battery life and wonder if I'll actually see a difference.
When it comes to gizmos and gadgets.. I would have to say that Samsung is really trying to stay ahead of Apple... maybe with limited success. Apple and iPhone are known for their quality of build... Sadly, the same can't be said about the plastic, cheap feel of Samsung phones.
Who knows, maybe I'll hold the S4 in my hand and decide it's the perfect device for me! Or...maybe not.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Definitely not. Being a former Android "Fanboy" I was initially thrilled with the prospects of being able to customize my phone into oblivion. This thrill soon gave way to the fact that I was spending more time tweaking my phone than actually being productive with it. I've since moved over to my 4S and have not looked back. Like many have said in this forum, what I like is the tight integration between my various platforms (iMac, iPad and iPhone). Without question, the quality of the iPhone is head and shoulders above any of the Samsung products in fit and finish.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
For me it comes down to what the iPhone 5s will bring. If its only a minor upgrade from the current 5 I "may consider" the S4 or HTC One(probably not though, I just like having other options). I love iOS and my iPhone. I currently have a 4S and the 5 was not enough of an upgrade for me to spend my money on it. I'm hoping Apple really does something with OS 7 and the hardware to keep me around. I'm not bored with my iPhone by any means, I just want to see Apple step up a little and come out with some newer features that other phones don't have, or even some similar features. I'd love to have NFC and LTE. We will see in the next coming months.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I love Apple products, I have a Macbook and I cherish it! I've never had an Iphone but back in November I was due to upgrade and really was looking forward to getting the 5, then I thought maybe I should wait till after Christmas and see what happens, I wasn't absolutely totally sold on the Iphone at the time because of the OS, It's old and not really "mindblowing" I wanted a new phone that had a new user experience. What sold me on it though was the camera, and the design of the phone! A really great hardware phone, although I disagree with the increase in screen height without width increased. That was a terrible mistake on Apple's side (I find that alot on my sisters I5). So to jump on Galaxies side, I looked into it to, great specs, great screen, great display, though with only 306 ppi.. wasn't sold on that, the hardware again, fantastic, just like the Iphone's, but my trouble started with the user experience of the device, once again.. an old OS, buggy, laggy, I dont like the OS in general, prefer IOS much more but that's my opinion.. so long story short I fell in love with the Z10 from BlackBerry and haven't looked back.
Would I buy an I5S, sure, would I buy a SGS4, sure, as long as they bring a long better user experiences, I don't care about apps, I want something that doesnt get boring!

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I don't think I could ever go back to an android phone. I tried with a Galaxy SII but only lasted a week before becoming annoyed and missing my 4s. I now have the iPhone 5 and love it. I have played with my mothers SIII but it really is to big for me and the volume buttons are way to easily pushed. I will get an iPhone 5s or whatever comes next, but never android for me again no matter how awesome it might look and what features it might it might have.
-
Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
No. The S3 was/is a great phone and I'm sure the S4 will be as well. I've tried a lot of Android phones and always come back to the iPhone. Fortunately, I've realized that the iPhone works best for me. I am very happy with my 5.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I do see what he was trying to say, but I think they way it was said was lost by the delivery. Even iMore's very own Rene Ritchie saying (The "iPhone 5s" problem | iMore.com) that Apple needs to bring more, much more to the next iPhone. The issue isn't one of Samsung being better or HTC knocking it out of the park but that Apple has become complacent with an annual release of their iPhone with an every other year minor upgrade cycle. The competition whether you want to admit it or not has in fact caught up and is now starting to pass Apple. Drop the high and mighty plastic vs aluminum argument because I am just as comfortable with a GS3 and I am with my new iPhone 5 I got on Saturday, yet I miss the screen size of Android, but love the benefits of iOS, see my issue here.
The GS4 will bring new technology, new benefits and will push Apple even harder. The iP5S or iP6 (which ever it is this year) will sell tens upon tens of millions out of the gate, so what. Its not entirely about the numbers sold as Apple buyers will buy Apple no matter what. Its the fact that there are Apple buyers who are seeing the innovations OTHER companies are offering and it is drawing them away. Apple has been known for innovation and for Apple to continue it highly successful path they cannot afford to the every other year upgrade cycle. That is something that is accepted in the automotive world since it costs hundreds of millions if not more to design, launch and release a new car, retooling ain't cheap.
I am not saying Apple has to change the design every year, but they need to WOW the world every year and Siri was not a wow for me and neither was maps or passbook (which still has what 20+ apps that work with it, wow that is impressive). Apple turned the SMARTphone world on its head in 2007 and 6 years later we are still waiting for that to happen again. They can do it, they need to do it, and they should put a real battery into the iPhone while they are at it.
Apple can get away with the the same physical design 2 years in a row like a car company, but even BMW makes changes year over year that generates a buzz.

I don't think Apple simply has a 5S planned though... think there will be more to follow.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Jeremy I certainly hope Apple does, I would like to actually have a reason to upgrade a phone that may be only 5-6 months old which I know will hold its value well enough. Only time will tell.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Thank you all for the replies. Tonight we will see what's in store. I do expect Samsung will take advantage of Apple coming up with the iPhone 5s with a spec upgrade. Time will tell.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
If I understand, the processors that Samsung uses are usually outperformed by Apple devices by about 20% looking at the previous trends. GPU, from the iPhone, will kill any competition using the current trends. So specs are kind of worthless, least you add in other gizmos.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I have the SG3 and it's okay, but I am going to jump to i5 and if I can wait, the i5s. I do agree that the SG3 feels almost cheap, I always have a case because it's so light and too thin. The i5 is just perfect, the SG3 is in my opinion too big for me, I have to reposition it in my hands to drag down notifications.
So to answer the question of the thread, I will be not be purchasing the sg4. Apple will take my take my money on my next phone.

You know i feel like this thread is being biased. Now let me explain before all the great and smarta** comments come along :). I love iOS and android they are both amazing and pretty solid os's, now with that being said iOS takes the cake, in terms of usability and just being a clean straight forward OS. Android on the other hand gives you major functionality you get with iOS but not until after you jailbreak. I think android has come leagues ahead of what it used to be.
This lag your speaking about maybe so, but an average consumer not "geeks" "nerds" "phone junkies" like us would notice. I love iOS again it's clean and just plain usable, but I love android for the crazy amount of stuff you can do right out of the box. Widgets have never been my fancy but roms, themes, over-clocking, just tinkering in general is something I adore about android. Now I'm not trying to start something, I'm just giving my opinion. I own a htc evo lte and ever since STOCK PLUS GOODIES rom came out with 4.1.2. It is an amazing rom and utilizes the phone to its full potential, rant done lol.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
If I defect from iPhone (owned them since original 2007, only skipping the 3G) it would more likely be to a BB10 device - Z10 or Q10 or ?10.
The only Android phone I'd consider is a Nexus, but not one made by Samsung or LG. HTC or Motorola only.
BUT - if the 5S blows the doors off the competition with something revolutionary I'm sticking with iPhone. :)

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Android is ok. With Samsung though, it becomes something else. A Samsung/Android OS. Just as the Kindle Fire runs something Amazon altered to the point it's not the android you want anymore. It's not about being able to choose different form factors and sizes by all the OEM's then. Each one is too different.
The mainstream doesn't really care though. It's a GS4 (credit samsung's marketing). It's a big screen. Must get. There's no doubt in my mind that Apple is losing a lot of sales because they've waited so long to join the big screen phone party. A bigger screen = more premium for a lot of people. I think Apple knows this but it's not so easy to do with iOS and not an easy choice with just one phone or brand. With the iphone contributing the most to their revenues and profits, they want to be careful.
A crazier prediction: iPhone Plus is real, and huge – Marco.org
At the end of Jan 2013, this was making the rounds and lot of people seemed to agree such as Gruber.
Its 640 × 1136, 264 DPI screen would measure 4.94” diagonally
All the math makes sense and it's something Apple could do. But they'd get hammered if they came out with this. The GS4 is 441ppi. The HTC One is 468ppi. Both are 1920x1080.
Such a choice would make Apple's big iphone the LOWEST ppi phone on the market for the most part. The competitors would have a field day with this as would most media.
2272x1280 (double the current resolution). 5" That's what Apple has to hit to get a bigger iphone. That's the magic "kill em all" button for Apple to press. That's the major thing hardware wise that Apple, with all their billions in the bank, should be aiming towards given how important the iphone is to them overall. The "we got a bigger screen" argument for android makers ends with that. I'd be surprised if Apple is not headed in this direction. It's overkill perhaps, but no other product Apple makes deserves it more.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Nope. I do not want a phablet, size is a dealbreaker, and none of the features were really all that enticing.

Exactly! I had an HTC One XL. Although the hardware was fantastic (the upcoming One looks amazing), after the fun of flashing roms and kernels wore off....it's not iOS.
Android still lagged at times, even on hardware that was "superior" to my iPhone 5. Apps are also coded better for iOS, and it just works with the rest of my Apple gear (AppleTV, iMac, etc).

Because some people want more control of their devices in the form of personalizing it to their specific liking and there is nothing wrong with that just like there is nothing wrong with other people liking their devices as it comes.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
So far I haven't seen anything compelling enough to make me switch from my iPhone 4S. Not even the iPhone 5. As a photography enthusiast, the camera on the Galaxy S3, or the S4 for that matter, aren't as good as the Apple offerings. The components may be up to snuff but the processing done by the devices to get the final image doesn't even come close to the iPhone's. And I could care less that the Galaxy S4 can take a photo with both cameras at once. In fact, after watching the Galaxy S4 "Unpacking" - where the demos on the big screen weren't even live, they were artificially done - there were no really cool features about the device that interested me.
I'm holding out for the iPhone 6. I just hope Apple comes out with something fresh that will knock the socks off of Android. iOS 7 needs to be different if Apple wants to continue promoting their OS as the world's most advanced mobile operating system. We're counting on you Mr. Ive.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Actually, the reverse is true for me. I switched to the GS3 from my iPhone 4 in July 2012 and I regret that decision everyday. Almost everything about the GS3 irks me, from the horrible battery life to the buggy software (I reboot probably everyday because of bugs) to the stupidly placed on/off key that I press accidently almost everytime I watch a video in landscape orientation. I installed a build of CyanogenMod which slightly improved the experience, but I just hate the hardware.
I'll be switching back to iOS as soon as my contract comes up.

I really hope that apple updates iOS if not ill buy the sgs4. I like iOS but my time with the IP5 left me wanting more. The basics are covered but their is a lot missing

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Apple needs to (finally) update iOS, the bundled apps, an the ability to select default apps. If they d thy, ill consider staying in the fold... Otherwise, like so many others who have tried the latest android devices, I'm out of here.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I'm very happy with my 4S and have been waiting for a 5S since i'm on TMobile, but the S4 is definitely interesting. All the bashing about the polycarb vs metal case doesn't make any sense to me. Yes, the body of the iphone is more attractive, but i've never owned a smartphone without a highend protective case, and those always add a bit of bulk in addition to completely hiding the actual phone body. I'd say 90% of smartphone owners use cases as well, many of them big like Otterboxes, so the phone body material is mute for me.
-
Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Allready switched to SGS3. The screen size makes the whole difference. Feels unusually largeish at start and then you never want to go back. The difference in the moderns OS's is negligable.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Great thread.
I use iphone for video a lot. A lot of people will praise the s4 camera but don't really have serious experience of video (or stills) i look at the eco system, the apps available, form factor for handholding, accessories, add ons in development and the iphone is way ahead as an overall imaging tool.

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I would never switch an iPhone or a Windows Phone for an Android phone. It just destroys the user experience.. wouldn't touch an Android.. Even with a 10 foot barge pole :P

I have no interest in the s4. I have my note 2 and kind of want to go back to the iphone 5. ;) still debating whether or not to go tlback to the iphone. The summer is coming and the note 2 is huge. Where am I gonna put it when im outside. Its so big. :( I dont like to flash my cellphone or hold it in my hand when im outside lol when I put the note 2 in my sweater pocket. Half of it sticks out lol decisions decisions

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I am tired of being bored with the phone. Looking forward to something new and exciting. I can wait for the next iPhone and see what happens.
-
Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
A lackluster 5S would not cause me to abandon ship and go with Android (God no). But it would be very disappointing.
I really want an iPhone with a bigger display. 5" 400+ DPI would be nice. How ever Apple gets there, they need to get there.. We developers will adjust. We may not like coding to yet another display target, but we *will* adjust.
As a matter of fact, I'm not upgrading my 4S until Apple goes big. And to all you saying that you would never use such a phone. That's fine. It won't be for everyone. But it would work for me.
Why can't Apple have two high end iPhones in the product line up?? One big: 5"+. One small: 4". It works for iPads, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, iPods, and iMacs... Why not also for smartphones?

Re: *Will the iPhone 5S make you switch to the Samsung Galaxy S4?
I will never switch because I am tied into the ecosystem and honestly the way my iPhones, iMac and Apple TV work together is so easy and impressive that I will never leave Apple the specs don't have to be the best it just has to work properly each day and be user friendly.

You know the first several iPhones were PLASTIC so those who live in glass houses should not caste stones. Clearly plastic was acceptable to Apple and so why should it not be acceptable to others. I always put a case on my phone regardless of it being my white iPhone 5 or a Samsung phone I have owned, in the end the phone is now shrouded in plastic for me. When Apple can build phones that don't scratch to **** and can survive a simple drop without shattering then I think they will have a case to argue.
This is from someone who has lived on all current and past OS platforms.

Apple should make a larger phone and if that means its a polycarbonate body like the earlier iPhones to offset the cost to create a larger screen, digitizer, etc then so be it. But they do need to innovate beyond the 2010 screen size they use today.

Not a big fan of Touchwiz or Sense. I am waiting to see the Motorola X phone or the next Nexus device, but I also am interested in the Galaxy Note 3.
For my mom who has an iPhone 5 and an upgrade that will come due at around the time the 5S is released, I will upgrade her device simply because I still will be able to sell her iPhone 5 at a good price and that will make the upgrade free. I always like to have the latest and the greatest. There is usually something better about the device that makes it worth it.

If you had asked 6 months ago or even earlier this year if I thought the iPhone 5 was that much better than the 4S, I would have told you NO, but now that I have an iPhone 5, I can tell you straight up that the answer is "Heck yeah!" I'm not saying yes because I upgraded to it. I'm saying yes because of the "noticeable" differences in power & speed when doing typical smartphone stuff.

I held on to the 4S for 17 months before deciding to buy the iPhone 5 so no, I highly doubt I'll have any regrets from not waiting for the 5S.

I have used my mom's 4S and 5 and I totally agree there is a huge difference. The screen size is bigger, the phone is faster, thinner, lighter and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL - IT'S 4G LTE!
How can you even compare a 3G only device to a 4G LTE device? The difference in speed if you are somewhere with a decent 4G LTE signal is tremendous.

LOL, obvious answers coming from an Apple Forum. If the 5S fails to impress, I'll just stick with the 5. I'm still happy with the 5, but not opposed to switching to Samsung/HTC in the future. I'll have to see what comes out that interests me.

I had the same experience with android. I had the Droid X and the Droid Bionic when they were the latest and greatest that android had to offer and they both still ran like crap in comparison to my experience on iOS. The ONLY thing I miss about android is the screen sizes that their phones offer. I prefer a bigger phone but I will not sacrifice stability to go back to a larger device.

I hear the HTC One takes care of all of those issues with NO lag. That's what I see and hear from the youtube videos, anyway.
