Sprint iPhone 5C unlockable for US GSM?

Quick question for a friend who is looking to buy an iPhone 5C that is a Sprint model.

Can she get it unlocked for use on AT&T or T-Mobile? I know the answer for the carriers but Sprint I have heard mixed info.

The Verizon variant comes unlocked out of the box... I believe the Sprint variant can be unlocked by Sprint... and only for international use.

I'm pretty sure this is not possible to use a Sprint iPhone on ATT or T mo. Sprint phones are CDMA. ATT and TMo are GSM network phones.

It used to be that cut and dried - it is less so now. The Sprint variant of the iPhone 5S & 5C doesn't cover all the frequency bands that ATT & TMo use...
