the iphone is recognized very occasionally but most times not

I don't know, but since it's recognized on occasion, there could be a short in your USB cable for the USB port itself. Try a different cable and/or port.

Thanks a lot Just_Me I did as you said used the lead from my iPad in a USB port on the back of PC and It worked fine. Funny thing is it now works with phone lead and front USB port that didn't work before. Happy now so thanks again.....Roy
