Why aren't I getting any notifications?

Getting to notifications

I have an iPhone 5 and used to be able to get to notifications. Since an my lastest update, I can't get to notifications. They show as they post, but then are lost. I went to settings-notifications where the instructions again say just swipe down, but the phone doesn't all a swipe down. Please help. Thanks.

Getting to notifications

Welcome to iMore! Notifications are in the settings app. Go to Settings > Notifications > scroll to the App you want to set.
Set as desired:

To see notifications when you swipe the notification center down, toggle "Show in notification center" on.
