Worth to buy this iPhone 5?

Hi All,

I have intended to buy a used iPhone 5. However, it has scratches on the side as you can see in the figure attached. The owner said the phone is always covered by a case and the scratches are due to the housing. I do not understand why those scratches happened.

Could you please let me know whether the conditions that caused those scratches affect on the phone? Is it worth to buy that phone?

Scratches on the exterior of the device should not have any effect on its performance. Having said that, if you're uncomfortable with buying the device due to the scratches, tell the buyer you'll pass on purchasing it and seek to purchase one elsewhere.
