I found an iPhone 5 on the street. It had been put out with a bunch of other items that were being thrown away. I have tried to contact the person who is on the front screen but the number has been disconnected. I can't unlock it and I can't seem to see it as a device in iTunes. What should I do with it. Or how do I take ownership of it.

So i guess it had been thrown out with the trash from a house and was outside the house in question, right? Or maybe a business?

Why not knock on the door? It was clearly thrown out in error. As for taking ownership, why? It's not yours.

As the device is not yours, no moral person should help you take ownership of it. Do the right thing, go back to where you found it and ask at the place you found it outside.

How do you take ownership of it????

You don't. If it is legit lost/stolen and reported, it's on a blacklist and can never be activated...and if it has Apple's activation lock active, that too renders it unusable. Turn it in to your local police.

Maybe it was thrown out by a thief who could not get past the activation lock.

Sent from my ancient but trustworthy iPhone 5. ☮
