if i bought an iPhone 5 outside of a carrier and wanted to put it on a contract, could i? specifically with Rogers?

I'm confused.. Why would you want a contract, if you bought it outright? If you've got the phone, enjoy being free! Buying phones away from your carrier enables you to purchase a new device whenever you'd like. :)

As long as it meets Rogers' requirements, you should be able to. In other words, if Rogers is a GSM carrier, make sure the device is also a GSM model and is not locked to any other carrier.

Exactly, just get service for it. You're not purchasing the device as a subsidy and require a two year contract to pay it off or anything. Rogers should be more than willing to help you in this matter.
