Power button and volume up not working

My girls iphone 5 has had a finicky power button for a while and the volume up button suddenly stopped working as well. I set her up with assisted touch because without it she is stuck on high volume. She is out of warranty since it has been purchased over a year ago so I'm not sure the apple store will help despite this being a hardware issue. I told her to try the apple store anyways since she's a hot she might get lucky depending on the "genius". If anyone has experienced a similar problem and has a solution I'd love to hear it.

In the event warranty/slightly out of warranty service isn't successful - the buttons can be repaired... an Apple Store can give you an idea of their costs... and there are 3rd party options available as well.
