I've had the Focus since June, and I've had some sporadic issues of it "forgetting" that it was left on the BlueTooth when I turn the car on. However, the last couple of days, I appear to have also lost the ability of controlling playback from the car.

When I turn it on and connects to the iPhone, it does not automatically start playing anymore, nor do the play/pause controls work (dash, steering wheel, voice). No changes were made to either side of things, and I'm not sure which side the issue is. This has happened before, but rebooting the phone cleared it. Rebooting the phone did not clear it this time.

From things I've read, Ford Sync is notorious for issues...

Things to do... see if there's an update for your Ford Sync system in the car... go into the Bluetooth settings on the phone and the car, and delete the parings... re-pair and see what happens...

I was planning on checking for an update this weekend, but I doubt I'll find one as I just applied an update in June. :|

    I'll try un-pairing and re-pairing this evening.

Update: I now think the issue is with the phone. I deleted the pairing (on both sides) and re-established the pair, and it took several tries before it'd take as the iPhone kept saying the pairing failed just as I was starting to enter the security code the car generated. I then tried to use the iPhone Control Center and Lock Screen playback controls, and both of those failed to work, too.

If I do a full reset and "restore as new" the iPhone via iTunes, will I then loose my GMail Exchange setup?

Shouldn't... I managed to keep Exchange with GMail on my iPad through all the iOS7 betas and up to 7.0.2

Did you update-in-place, or did you reset to factory default and then do a "as new"?

The longest part of my restore process was downloading the maps for Navigon... the entire restore process for me was done in under 3 hours...

    Update:

I did the restore last night, success. It also appears to have recovered about 700MB of space.

And a little later, I forgot to turn the BT back on before starting the car. I then turned the BT on, and it connected for phone use, but attempting to connect for media use by telling Ford Sync to switch to "bluetooth audio" failed to connect. I had to power cycle the car (including opening and closing the door because of how Fords work) for it to be able to stream media.
