Hi guys I'm fairly new here and I need some help. I'm wanting to figure out if its possible to turn off the GPS tracking feature on my iphone 5? my other question is, if I turn it off will my carrier still be able to track it? I have version 6.1.4 iOS just in case that matters and my carrier is AT&T.

Yes. Go to Settings-Privacy and then turn OFF "Location Services". As for whether or not your wireless carrier can still detect your location with the aforementioned services disabled, I wouldn't bet against it.

Cell phone carriers will ALWAYS be able to locate you at least down to the cell tower/sector of said tower you're using... the only way to avoid that is to turn off the phone.

Thank you very much guys so if my phone is off there's no tracking right? I ask cause I'm dealing with an ex that works for AT&T and I'm not sure but I think she's tracking my phone.

Correct... phones that are off can not be tracked... If I had an ex that worked for AT&T... I'd switch carriers just to make sure the ex couldn't get into my business... #justsayin'

Old thread. But of course you can be tracked if the sim card is gone. They're just not using the cell network to do so. They'd be using wifi and potentially iTunes.

T-Mobile has that new "break up with your carrier" promo going on...for you it would have a double meaning! Maybe look into it, if T-mobile works around you.

I'm pretty sure it's not a carrier specific thing, they all track you to some degree. Wether they use the data or not is the real question

If course they can. Coming from an Att employee all they need is a phone number no matter what kind of phone you have. Dumb ph smart ph what have you. As advised below. Ex in the way just switch carrier and change number . You could stay with Att and get another ph with a different ph # and account in a different name. That way ex wouldn't know the ESN of the new ph nor the number

If you have a GPS chip, you can be tracked, whether it's off or on. Simple as that, don't want to be found? Don't have a GPS chip.

As others have said, the operator doesn't need GPS to find your general location, at least down to the closest cell tower. If you are within reach of several towers, they could be much more accurate than that.

Depending on Privacy laws where you live, tracking COULD be illegal, unless you give your permission, or if Rescue services or other authorities think that there is some emergency. That could be handy if I break my leg in the woods just outside town.

With the right equipment, a device can be located, especially if it's powered on, but in the "typical" sense, the answer to your questions is no.

For me, I believe someone was tracking me as well. Even the phone was locked, it unlocked in my pocket. Phone setting show "off" but those people who I call them hacker, they can rewrite and programming it "on" even it show "off " in phone setting. Even I off my phone.
Some specialists suggestion is to remove the battery.
iPhone can remove the battery and we will not remove it and make ourself busy for this everyday.

You can attempt all suggestions your own phone, attempting to track with another device.

I found that my phone could be e tracked regardless.

    If charge completely dead=still tracked.
    No sim=still tracked
    Disabled location=still tracked.
    Airplane mode=still tracked.
