cannot transfer anything via bluetooth

i tried to connect to an iPhone 3gs running iOS 5.1 and a 4s running iOS 6.1. but i couldn't even pair the devices. they didn't show up when i turn on the iPhone. and same in theirs.
any help ?

I was under the impression you had to use a 3rd party app to transfer files via bluetooth using i-devices.

You'll need to use a third party app for transferring files over Bluetooth as iOS doesn't natively support it. As for the pairing issue, did you double check to make sure the device you're attempting to pair with is set as discoverable?
