Best Buy Kicks Off Another Free iPhone 5 Trade-In Deal | Cult of Mac

Normally I?d speak out in opposition to a deal like this, in favor of selling your phone outright and then buying a new phone...

But I just got home from my local BestBuy where I traded in my wife's 8GB iPhone 4 for a 16GB iPhone 5... it cost me $12.44 for tax. The best I?ve seen for the 8GB iPhone 4 was about $135-140...

It was a painless process...

It was an incredibly easy process... no surprises at all. The biggest issue was that the Best Buy we went to was slammed. The waiting list was over an hour... we put our name in, went to meet some friends for dinner... and then we got a call about 45 minutes later saying that we’d be "up" in about 15-20 minutes... we finished our dinner, headed back to Best Buy and were done and on our way home less than 20 minutes after we got back to the store.

In my experience, Best Buy is either awesome or maddeningly frustrating. This time, it was awesome.

I just did this myself. No hassle trying to sell the phone. Was even able to upgrade from a 16 gb to 32 GB by just paying the difference. As incremental as iPhone upgrades seem to be I don't see this posing a problem at all. Awesome phone, awesome price, two thumbs up.

Not sure if each store has the equipment... but just do an iCloud backup and restore...
