Speaker Completely Quit Working

Anyone ever had their speaker completely stop? It was working fine and then all of a sudden it isn't. I can't hear ringtones or listen to music through the speaker. No speakerphone either. The earpiece works.

And yes, the mute switch is turned to sound on. I've checked everything I can think of but I'm starting to think it's shot.

Anyone have any insight? Thanks!

At this point, I'd make an appointment with your nearest Apple Store's Genius Bar... if they find it defective, they'll replace it under warranty.

Sounds like the same kind of boat I'm in Apple store wise... Minneapolis or Des Moines are the closest to me...

St. Louis is the closest for me. And it's about a 2 hour drive. I've always had to do business over the phone. It's a little tough on the gas bill to make it there and back.

Okay, so it started working again about an hour ago. Everything works fine. Sounds, videos, music. Now all of a sudden, it doesn't work. This is the weirdest thing.

Guess I got to get a replacement

Before replacing it, try restoring the iPhone through iTunes...there could have been an issue during a sync or an update that is causing the issue, and a restore more often than not can fix these kinds of issues.

I had already tried a reinstall. Didn't seem to help anything. Looks like Apple is gonna have to come to the rescue.

Check your headphone port for lint/debris; sounds like your phone might think you have something plugged in to the jack.

Yeah. I'm thinking it's shot. The phone is only a couple weeks old, so it shouldn't be doing this. I'm supposed to talk to Apple today to see what we can do.

I had the same issue with my iPhone 4S. Had to drive to Indy to Apple store and they replaced it on the spot. The person at the Apple store just returned from an Apple repair class and took my phone apart in the back of the store. He came out and showed me the speaker and it was all "gunked " up with dust and stuff. Something caused it to short out he said. No problems after that and none with my iPhone 5. Good luck. It will have to be replaced I am sure.

I highly doubt it was due to any junk getting in it. It was taken out of the box, used for a day in an Otterbox, and then quit working. Apple is supposed to be sending me a replacement.
