The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
I picked up an iPhone 5 first thing in the morning on launch day and I couldn't be happier after dumping my Blackberry Bold 9930. No scuffs/dents, no defects, software issues, or anything else other people love to complain about. Sure, maps is underdeveloped, but how do you expect a brand new in house mapping solution to compete with Google's tried and tested mapping monster? It will come with time. This was an incredible upgrade for me - it's light years ahead of anything my Blackberry has ever done. The transition has been unreal. I thought I would miss the physical keyboard but I type just as fast on the touch screen. The fluidity of the OS, the speed, the battery life, the screen - it's all amazing. Comparing it to other phones, to the 4S, it's all silly. It IS a worthwhile upgrade any way you look at it.
To quote the great Louis CK - "Everything is amazing and nobody's happy". Enjoy your powerhouse of a phone!

Don't worry... most of us do! :D

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
You know it's funny that they talked about how precise the iPhone 5 was, you know diamond cut and everything. But when I felt it, it felt like plastic.
-
Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
I disagree. 4G, bigger screen, better battery life, faster processor - all things that finally sold me on the iPhone. Things that made me hesitate and think twice before jumping on the 4S.
-
Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
Sorry to say that I don't miss my 4S... not one second.

If your due for an upgrade, or getting a new contract, there's no reason why you'd choose a 4S unless 100$ more for two years of greater benefits is beyond your means... Good choice! :)

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
My friend who was an ardent iPhone 5 hater but loved his iPhone 4S played with my phone and even he conceded that it's better. No question about it.

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
It's faster, but it's only like 2 times faster. I'd like to get more bang for my buck. Did you noticed the Apple logo on the back is not silver?

No I meant when the 4S was first launched. It just wasn't enough for me to hop on the iPhone train. The 5 was. Perfect blend of new features.

What does the Apple logo color have to do with anything? And "only like 2 times faster" is significant to me.

You mean like a galaxy s3 or htc one x that's actually made out of plastic and not glass and aluminum. Come on man. Stop it. You enjoy trolling now.

Oh will you die already... Don't worry Doc, in another thread mister metrion was all fangs in the beginning, but in the end he was pretty much agreeing with everybody against him...
It's only like 2 times faster... what are you, stupid? Two times faster than a phone that still kicks many asses out there on benchmark! Enough bang for my bucks... but of course you're not holding a 5, are you?

Apple had to calm down. If they had come out with something else revolutionary, the world wouldn't be ready for that yet.

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
Ha, kind of off topic, but why does everyone (non-iphone users) ask me if the apple logo glows? Did someone start that rumor? I'm just like uh, no.. And A++ for that quote. It's so true.

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
It's negative feedback we're giving because we're getting features taken away from us.
I think it's overreactions to that negative feedback that causes the flair ups around here. Apple is a company and the assessment must be done.

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
So you're telling what like it is? You like putting down a phone you don't even own??? If you have some reason for waiting to upgrade that's fine but quit spouting off at the mouth about something you aren't even using on a daily basis! You remind me of those tech sites that say the iPhone 5 is boring, really? Guess that's why they sold 2 million of em so far, huh?

Worth it! The guy even has that surreal sense of logic motoleo had... like when he argued earlier in this thread that the Apple logo wasn't even silver behind the iPhone.

Unfortunately, this might not work as it is very easy to change your IP address if you really wanted to. As you said, though, you can tell by the posters style of posting as that is something that isn't as easily changed.

Compared to my Old iPhone 4S it IS more than just 2X faster. Also, I have the White & Silver iPhone 5, and the Apple logo is on the back is definitely silver.... Perhaps you should get your eyes checked out. Oh and one more thing, actually use a product before you attempt to post facts about it, as that way you won't come off as a person who doesn't know what they a talking about like you do here. ;)

Does it really matter what color the apple logo on the iPhone 5 is? On the white is silver and on the black slate it's a darker color. Now go on move on....

Hi Doc. I'm glad to hear you're happy with your iPhone 5. I agree that it's amongst the best smartphones available, and I happen to love it.
HOWEVER, dismissing real problems as "issues other people love to complain about" is immature. I see you've come from a blackberry, that's great. I came from an iPhone 4, and an iPhone 3G prior to that. Both phones exceeded expectation and never caused my any issues at all. Literally zero reliability problems. Loved 'em.
Tomorrow I'll be visiting the local Apple store to receive my THIRD iPhone 5. Yes. I have had two iPhone 5's with serious hardware issues that limited functionality (read: not scuffs in the anodization). To say that this is an issue I "love to complain about" is a joke. I don't love to complain about it at all. I'm a staunch Apple gizmo lover. I'm embarrassed to talk about it. I am in disbelief that I have not yet successfully found a 100% working iPhone 5 yet. If this next one has an issue too, I'll call Apple again, and if there isn't a pre-checked-amazing-100%-working-iPhone-5 ready to go for me, I'll sell this thing on craigslist and buy a Samsung Note 2. That is the level of frustration I will have reached.

First of all, you need to relax. You are apparently incredibly unlucky and got screwed, no big deal. Exchange it and get another one. Defects happen. People DO love to complain and the overdone iPhone 5 negativity IS overdone. Just cause you happened to be one of the unlucky ones doesn't make my statements "immature" or any less factual.

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
Call it overdone, but hearye. It's too expensive for me to upgrade the phone for minor stuff such as Siri loading a little faster or adding Facebook integration. That's like paying for a whole new app everytime you get an app update pushed to your phone.
It's great for people joining Apple and anyone who managed to get it for free by trading in their old one. But I've tried it, and the phone is just not that fast. Apps still pause when launching. Safari still loads web pages in an inordinate amount of time.
The keyboard still lags when you're typing fast, and Siri still can't tell you the time without being connected to the Internet. Front facing camera is still only 720p. You still can't lock the orientation to landscape.
All of these things could be better. I'm not wowed. Definately not wowed.
Even if they had come up with something that really makes a difference in my life, I'd have rushed out to buy it. I still have to charge this phone every night. A real battery improvement would've given them the chance to market the phone as "The most powerful iPhone yet." With our 25-40% longer battery life, I'd happily your my new phone as "The iPhone that ever sleeps."
We didn't get that this time.

Just admit it, you've never even picked up the phone. Most of the above is just BS. First off Facebook integration has ZERO to do with iPhone 5 rather iOS 6. It's faster than any phone out there currently. Yes, I own every flagship phone regardless of OS. Keyboard lags? Never had it lag one time. I'm sure others will agree. Tell me one other phone where apps don't pause when launched for a fraction of a second? Wait, don't even try because you can't! I'm not even going further with this. Not worth my time or effort.
If you're going to troll do a better job. It is becoming very obvious and very tiresome to other members here.

The trollcasting is a little much. Everyone is entitled to an opinion… you don’t have to like it, but no one is demanding you be involved. Because of the purported LTE, and faster Wi-Fi, I thought that web pages would load completely in less than a fraction of a second. When they told us that there's "less space between the content and your finger" about how the pixels do double the work, I was expecting to feel it or for it to be more responsive or something.
It's just a regular phone.
I have expectations about the new iTunes. I'm excited about that, I hope it delivers.

Are you really serious? Have you ever used any smartphone before? Android? Windows Phone? I'm begging you to please tell me one platform that any app opens instantly with zero pause what so ever. Windows? Mac? Any mobile platform? Doesn't exist.

I am now totally convinced that he is motoleo. Phrasing and attitude were dead give-aways.
I understand that you don't like the phone. You have stated as much from the start. But what makes your opinion any "more right" than mine or anyone else's?
The points you raise read like Android talking point bulletins. The iPhone 5 is an incremental update over the iPhone 4S, which was an incremental upgrade over the iPhone 4, which was an incremental upgrade... (surely even you can complete the rest of this statement). That's how Apple rolls. They add a few major improvements with each iteration, along with some significant tweaking and improvements.
And for the record, the battery IS better. LTE can be a battery hog, but they've managed to get a full day out of the phone, along with more memory, larger screen, faster processor... and yeah, I'm going to mention Apple Maps, too, as an improvement (even though that's software, not hardware). I've been using the Maps since GM was released. It worked perfectly for me on my 4S, and I've still looking for my first real-world failure even on my iPhone 5.
You want to be a hater, fine. Just stop being a whiny little baby because Tim Cook and Sir Jony Ive didn't personally call you and ask for your design input. Grow up, please.

Despite having serious problems with my handsets, I can confirm that what you're saying is complete hear-say garbage. When I'm on LTE, websites do load in a fraction of a second. Coming from an iPhone 4 I was shocked by the speed that the websites would load up. It is definitely a combination of both the faster processor and the unreal network speeds afforded by LTE.
-
The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
Lol I love how he complains about the web page loading speeds which is dependant on the speed of his connection, network congestion, etc.
I came from a wicked fast HTC One X that was rooted and running a custom ROM, and other than the normal slow animation speeds in iOS, this phone is just as fast....with better battery life.
As for the iPhone 5 not being mindblowingly better than the 4s, do you think the Galaxy S3 is that much different than the Galaxy S2? No. It's how manufacturers do it. Incremental updates with new features.

Re: The Overdone iPhone 5 Negativity - From a Brand New iPhone User
I upgraded from an iP4 to iP5 and it is definitely worth the upgrade.
Bigger screen
4G radio
snappy processor
Maps may have been released a bit early but its a start. I hope that apple learns from their mistakes and makes it better in 6.1.

You got something wrong with your iPhone if it is taking that long to load apps. My iPhone 5 completely loaded all 3 of these apps within a second each.

I know what to tell you: Try using network based apps like weather and twitter when you're actually connected to a network. Gamecenter falls under the same category, and you're trying to show us 1 bar w/ 3G.
How do you seriously consider this objective?

Upon a second look, metrion's photos aren't even from an iPhone 5. What a joke. Now it's IP ban time.

Light, yes. Plastic? Absolutely not! Want to feel plastic, go and pick up a GS3 or Galaxy Nexus. You'll see what plastic feels like. My iPhone 5 while lighter than my 4S definitely has a solid feel to it. Apple got the weight right when they built the iPhone 5, IMHO.

Yes, you're wrong here. The first two pics clearly show a phone searching for a network. 3rd shows 1 bar... Find a wifi hotspot.

That's not even an iPhone 5 he's using mate, don't waste your breath.

I know 'metrion' is an incessant troll, and should not be fed - but sometimes one has to comment on obvious portrayals of an alternate reality.

Your status is searching "recherche.." You're not even connected to a network. Makes sense it wouldn't load quick buddy, and why it wouldn't at all. Nice try though.
I too came from a BB 9900 as the OP did, and cam honestly say I was an Iphone hater, and die hard BB fanboy..... Ummmm, not any more. I literally look at my BB9900, and as much as I love her, I always feel like a Delorian is going to come driving through my living room and take her back to 1984!!!
Gotta say, this Iphone5 is something fantastic. Only issue I have is the camera rattle, and it bugs the hell outta me. I'm a stickler for perfection (you should see my wife)....
Anyways, enough trolling, and try connecting to a network, or WIFI and then try opening your apps bud... should make a difference.

Doesn't look like it, does it? Using the wrong phone with no network hardly constitutes a point against the iP5...

I was just showing an example. Of course I recorded video of the iPhone 5. Same thing. That's why I took it back. And okay, how am I an iPhone hater if
Hello! Earth to iMore, I'm USING one!

Answer me this. Why couldn't we get the iPhone 5 last year.
I've only been here for two days and I already have infractions. I'll just stop while I'm ahead.

Well of course you were! Only it isn't an example if you're not using the phone you are talking about, and if you force the results. That is called a fraud. Which is what you are.

I think we all need a little scolding. What kind of community are we, disagreeing about everything just for the sake of it.

There, I fixed your post for you. ;)
Yup, this is exactly what "Motoleo" said in all of his outlandish posts about iOS6 as well. But he too kept coming back until he was finally banned....
Funny thing is, you can hide behind your new IP address, but not behind your ill thought out style of posting.....

Actually, this is one of the nicer communities to be apart of. As far as scoldings are concerned, you wouldn't have to worry about that if you just followed the rules that you yourself agreed to when you joined this site. ;)
