It's possible...i think Apple needs to do a little reworking on the WiFi settings on the iPhone 5 though for the next update (my work 4S always used 2.4Ghz anyways so it wasn't effected).
While I can't speak of how previous iPhone have worked in my house, my MacBook Pro and iPad (3rd Gen) have no problems on the 2.4ghz band.

My MBP works flawlessly on the 5Ghz band (as well as the 2.4Ghz band), it's this iPhone 5 that has given me issues with the 5Ghz band (and apparently it's a wide spread prob).

5GHz at my house is pure crap. 20 feet away, sure it's ok, anything more and it may as well just not be connected. Silly 5GHz and being better at bouncing off walls than going through them *sigh*. Also doesn't help that there are like 203948203984234 wireless networks in my complex.

Mine has been weird too. I have an original time capsule so pretty site it's only 2.4 band. I have my phone, my wife's iPhone an iPod touch apple TV and 2 iPads always on the network and never had issues before. Just the last few days my iPhone 5 has been acting very slow on the wifi, and the signal bars keep dropping out. The distance from the router hasn't changed so that has nothing to do with it. Any ideas?? Not sure what I can do. Currently have fios.

I received my iphone yesterday. Unless the phone is 2 feet away from the cable modem, it doesn't maintain a lock/connected to the network. Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?
I had the same problem. I went to the Apple store which has an extremely strong wifi source, and my phone couldn't find it! To make a long story short, I was given a new phone, and now all is well.
