I'm currently a galaxy s3 owner and I'm curious how battery life is with the iPhone 5. I know its 4g capable so that's the main reason I'm curious. As well as not having a replaceable battery. Throw me your results and thoughts. I understand the phone has a native 4g toggle, correct?

I also have a SIII, ATT variant. It's still early, but I would say the iPhone is quite a bit better than the SIII. I was running a custom kernel to optimize battery life on the SIII, but I'm still seeing much better performance on the iPhone, but again it's only been a few days. I have left the 4G on at all times and I have both work and icloud email set to push.

2 hours of this is just music use. The rest is LTE browsing (iMore app, iMore Forums app, FB, Twitter, Safari)

I find the battery life to be pretty good. I think most people don't take in to consideration the fact that they use a new phone more frequently because it is new.

I was an owner of the Galaxy S3 and currently am using the iphone 5. All things considered, my S3 would decrease at about twice the rate of what I am seeing the 5 decrease. Both phones I kept at maximum brightness so that accounts for much of the variation as the S3 obviously has a fairly larger screen and different screen technology. Also, I find the 5 charges VERY quickly using the new lightning cord.

I feel like it's on par or slightly less battery life than my 4S. This is with taking into consideration that I do not use it more than I did my 4S.

Posted this after working my 12 hour shift overnight on a different forum.. " Damn. Nice battery. Currently at 68% with 4 hours, 49 minutes of usage and 14 hours, 52 minutes of standby. Normally, with my 4S it would be close to 30% after work "

Then...later that same day...

'I was around 45% with 7 hr, 21 minutes usage. Stand by is 21 hr, 32 minutes.

Not bad at all. My 4S would have been dead a long time ago. '

I'm getting less than half of this. Browsing, email, text on LTE I'm near zero after 3.5 to 4 hours.

Signal strength plays a key role in determining your battery's performance. The weaker the signal, the more power your phone has to put in its cell chip to maintain contact with the tower.

So, about 6 hours of usage. There are so many variables. That's a nice thing about androids battery stats is the detailed breakdown. Some of this was 3G, some LTE, most wifi. Screen at 100% brightness. Some surfing, texting, streaming.

I had a GS3 before I had my Lumia 900 and now iPhone 5. I traded in the GS3 because I forgot how much I hated android and exchanged it for the L900. Then of course... got the i5. I have to say all have similar battery life. But I would say the iPhone 5 and L900 are a tie with the GS3 slightly behind.

Some of the numbers I've seen here makes me believe that people that are getting 15 to 22 hours of stand by don't talk more than 20-30 minutes a day. So I included the screen shot of my cellular usage since launch day at 8:20 am.

Almost a week now and the battery life is getting better. And I thought it was pretty good to start with.
