I just got a big battery improvement by accident, I was getting 5 hours of heavy usage, a few days ago I restored the iphone as a new device to process an unlock, I later restored from last back up and I've been getting around 7 hours ever since.

Not too shabby. Used it for an hour on Nike+ Running app with GPS.

How will that change affect everything? What does it do? I also have location services turned on for all of my apps. Isn't that necessary for them to work properly?

Well. A day after restoring to factory settings I don't feel much better off. I woke up and went down 10% overnight while in do not disturb mode. I get around 6 hours of use and 17 hours of standby. I do have my gmail pushed to my phone and all my apps have location services and push notifications enabled. Will that negatively impact things? It would seem to get the full use out of an app you would want it that way. I am thoroughly disgusted. This is basically installing apps all day yesterday over 3G and wifi. I have brightness down and close all my apps regularly. What gives? I am quite dissPointed with this to be honest with you.

I seem to get really varying battery performance. I posted a screenshot last weekend of what I felt was really good battery use. Now I just don't know. I'm at 91% with 38 minutes of use. Off the charger for 2 hrs 43 min. That seems bad.

I, had abysmal battery life until a) I turned off Safari sync in iCloud, b) I restored settings, and c) I turned off LTE at home. My battery is currently at 18% and I unplugged it on Wednesday morning at 5:30am (as of the writing of this post, it is 12:30 on Saturday.

I'm wildly impressed. This is my first iPhone (I have had crackberries and android devices) and this is the first time I've ever gone more than 12 hours on a single charge. True, my phone has been on standby for a good portion of that time frame listed above, but I've still had a good 6.5 hours of usage (surfing the web, listening to music, minor texting, about 20 minutes actually speaking on the phone).

Note: before I fixed the settings, I was getting maybe 8 hours total (standby or otherwise) on a single charge. Right now I'm at 43 hours. Wow. Just... wow. :)

I read the review from iMore about the iPhone 5 and it suggested connecting your new iPhone as NEW and not a backup. Stated it was a nuisance to do but was better for battery life. I set mine up as a backup and must say my battery is draining quickly everyday. Yes, I am probably using it more but not significantly so. I have turned off as many notifications as possible. How many folks set their iPhone 5 up as New? I am tempted to try it although it will be a pain to set everything up again.

Mine was set up with an iCloud restore from my iPad's backup. But my battery life was horrible until I did a few things as detailed in my OP, now it's fantastic. Been off the hook since yesterday at 6:00am and I've got 64% left.

Given, I'm probably considered a moderate user, but I really like knowing even if I forget to plug it in it'll still have juice in the morning :)

I restored from iCloud backup of 5.1.1 and my battery life is outstanding

Just jumping in. My battery life is phenomenal. All day on Verizon LTE with good service everywhere (Seattle. We were a test market). I use Facebook/Twitter/other social media as well as Gmail and lots of pushing of various things. Lots of calling my girlfriend in New York as well. I usually plug it in after 10 hours with a 1/3 of my battery left.
